Problems with LVT floor

SAH07 · 26/09/2024 13:12

We had a new lvt floor fitted in Dec 23 in our kitchen diner. The company was recommended. Cost quite a lot.

At the time of fitting all good but within a few months I noticed lines appearing in the floor. Now 9 months later these are ridges. I've emailed the company today showing photos and asked them how this can be rectified.

Realistically what can we expect? Should the company sort it? Or would be be expected to pay for a new floor?

We've followed advice on how to clean, there hasn't been any water damage and it's not in direct sunlight.

Thanks

I'll check with DH, he fits it, he was on his way out when I showed him the photo, he just said it was due to the preparation.
From my little knowledge it could be a few things such as faulty latex, too much liquid mixed in or not enough, the wrong type used etc.

It's the latex screed underneath breaking up. It will have to be lifted and redone.

That would be my guess too. Screed on a wooden floor ….there is alway chance for movement/ shrinkage/ expansion……depending and the moisure temperature underneath .

i’m going to wager that it’s not amtico or karndean?

The problem is not with the type of flooring its the subfloor underneath so it makes no difference what make it is.

Who would be at fault here do you think?

These are reputable experienced lvt fitters. They advised on the flooring and laid board over the floorboards and prepared the substrate.

Unless you've had a leak under the floor then I would say it's the fault of the fitters

Depends how flat the floor is to start with ? Screed on top of the boards would get it nice and level and flat.

it’s possible the screed was laid too thin and as previous poster has said and cracked and making the ridges? It’s impossible for anyone to say for sure without taking some up and looking 🙁. Which is not ideal for the op .
