Where should we move?

Where in or around London would you move to if you had the following criteria:

  • ethnic diversity (this is very important)
  • good schools (primary for now, secondary eventually)
  • reasonable commute into the City
  • access to green spaces/countryside
  • decent high street (restaurants and pubs and more important than shops)
  • a sense of community would be nice

We have a budget of £1.2m and would like a four bedrooms and a decent garden. Mid 30’s couple + toddler.

NB: I’ve often noticed on property threads where people say they want diversity that some areas are ruled out as ‘too middle class’. We’re very pro middle class areas.

I know Wandsworth hence why I asked what areas you were actually comparing when you said ….

“Wimbledon Town/South Wimbledon is no different to Wandsworth”

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 16:39

Perhaps you were comparing the whole borough to one part of another borough. It wasn’t clear hence why I asked.

Mirabai · 26/09/2024 16:53

If I’d meant the borough I would have said so. Happy to clarify.

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 17:23

What’s your data that says Wandsworth Common & Town are a similar demographic to South Wimbledon?

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 17:28

Certainly house price wise WT is far closer to Wim V than SW & I would expect similar demographics.

TheNoonBell · 26/09/2024 20:07

High Wycombe has a large community originally from St Vincent. Still quite close nit from what my friends in the area say.

Mirabai · 26/09/2024 20:34

50 years of being a SW Londoner. Wandsworth Town is nowhere near Wimbledon Village pricing.

The big houses around Wandsworth Common are more comparable to WV but there’s much more to Wandsworth than the common (or indeed WT).

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 20:37

I meant Wandsworth C was similar vibe to WV, typo.

I assume you don’t have any data then but well done for existing for 50 yrs, not sure why that’s relevant.

Mirabai · 26/09/2024 21:18

I assume you don’t have any data either, and frankly I couldn’t give a toot.

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 21:29

What data did you want me to provide?

I said “Comparing boroughs Wandsworth would be more white than Merton but not loads in it.” & that house prices in WC were more in line with Wim Vill than S Wim. Google will confirm both of the above.

I couldn’t give a toot explains a lot. I’m not sure why you are so upset by my posts but fingers crossed you have a better day tmw 👍

This is the dullest, least controversial post ever. How on Earth are people rowing?! I just wanted suggestions re house hunting!

North Chingford, near the station. The high street has lots of lively restaurants and cafes. Epping Forest is a few minutes' walk away. You'll always get a seat on the train. Very family friendly. Solidly middle class and diverse (didn't used to be, has improved massively). You'll get a very nice house for that money.

patchworkbear · 27/09/2024 00:51

I can't believe no one's mentioned Pinner- outstanding schools galore (both primary and secondary), lovely ethnic mix of people, historic high street/village vibes, very green and will take you 29 mins into the city. Your budget will be plenty to get a nice period house in the much desired HA5 postcode. Lots of community events for families- Michael Rosen grew up in the area and regularly hosts events. Look up the history of the place.
