Help me redesign the layout of my box room

It's occupied by a child so we will need off floor storage, clothes storage and play space. It seems a big ask, can it be done? Any items you would recommend?

Can you do a built-in bed using the stair bulkhead (assuming your box room is where loads seem to be, over the stairs?)

Then they can also build in under-bed drawers. Loads of shelves/off the floor stowage to maximise play space. Maybe keep clothes in another room?

So for example our box room is behind this stairwell, our plan was to knock down the wall straight ahead and bring it towards me (photo-taker), so you’d then have a slope above you when coming up the stairs for headroom. Then that gives room to have a bed built in in the box room and the slope is underneath the bed, so hidden, and the rest of the bed length can have drawers underneath……. Not sure if that makes sense. Perfectly doable as we had a builder in to almost do it but our plans changed in the end.

That sounds great. Unfortunately ours is at the front of the house in a very strange position. Very much a rectangular box!

Definitely some form of cabin bed. The storage underneath is so useful.

We had Flexa beds for our dc. The beds were basically beds IYSWIM, and you could get additional legs and ladders of different heights. This means the bed can change according to your needs. We have had them as a standard low bed (with nothing, drawers or a trundle beneath), a waist-height bed (storage beneath, and easier than a higher bed for bed making), and a shoulder-height bed (space for drawers and for playing, but had to climb up into it to strip or make the bed - which is fine once the child is old enough to do it themself).

6'3" 18yo ds still uses his, as does dd, who asked for hers to be turned back into a high bed 5y ago when she was 16, so they were well worth the price.
