What colours would you put with a teal sofa?

We're moving soon and I'm trying to plan out our new lounge in my head! It's north facing with a big bay window and a fireplace with alcoves either side.
We have a teal velvet corner sofa and a smaller chocolate leather one. What colours would you put with that?
I like warm or jewel colours. I'm conscious of the room facing north, our current lounge has windows at the front and back so gets sun all day.

Dark grey
bright mustard
dusky pink

What colour are/are you planning for the walls and/or floor? Any thoughts yet on curtains as well? Do you have any art work you'll be taking with you?

I'd be tempted by a deep orange and probably pink but I love bright colours. I think navy could also work?

Yellow ochre/ mustard

NashvilleQueen · 16/09/2024 07:00

Burnt orange. But I might be tempted to do a few different colours on a spectrum rather than one.

My north-facing front room is shades of brown with teal accents. The walls are Dulux soft truffle, dark brown wood floors, brown sofa, teal carpet/curtains. I love it, it's so cosy.

Pretty much any shade of green would work. Then you could do a bright colour like a raspberry pink or the orange or yellow mentioned above as an accent colour.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas

I have a teal sofa and struggling to find a colour for walls so following this post!

I’d be tempted to paint the walls a mid blue, with a light carpet or floor, white ceiling etc.
Pinterest is definitely your friend here though, lots of images to look at and some very stylish looking rooms based around a teal sofa.

My daughter is an interior designer and has just done a room for a client with a teal sofa and she chose them a mustard colour for the walls. She said it looked stunning when done. She messaged me with the photos and she was right. It looked amazing and stylish.

The house were hoping to buy has pale blue walls and an absolutely gorgeous feature wall with peacock wallpaper. It ties the blue & teal together

Rollerbird · 16/09/2024 09:27

Love teal.
I would go with orange or purple or rich cream/buttery yellow.
I love my bright colour though!

I have a teal chaise longue and a cognac leather sofa and our walls in our east facing sitting room are middleton pink. My friend has calamine walls with her teal sofa in her west facing sitting room.

I've a teal sofa and dusky pink walls.

Somanypiessolittletime · 16/09/2024 10:16

Thanks everyone. On our current place we have white walls but some burnt orange accents (rug, and painting) but I'm not sure if the room would feel cold being north facing if we had white walls. Even with the accents. Could we maybe paint the alcoves either side of the chimney stack a mustard or a blue or even a dusky pink maybe? Or is that too much with the orange-y tones? I do love rich warm colours

I have a teal velvet sofa and hot pink cushions. It's one of my favourite colour combinations (I used to have a silk dress made from a sari in those colours that I absolutely LOVED until I got too fat for it!)

Iloveshihtzus · 16/09/2024 10:24

I have a North facing sitting room. It is painted Stifskey Blue (dark navy). It was white before. It is much more cosy painted navy. I painted everything navy except the ceiling and it is now a very cosy ‘cuddly’ room.

I would go for a dark colour and really commit to it - don’t just paint the alcoves. It is daunting going from white to dark, but over you do, you’ll never go back.
