Where to buy house with land under 400k

[Turning25]

We have had long term plans to move abroad in order to afford a very rural property with land (as in 1 acre minimum). Unfortunately DH is undergoing investigations for a health condition which would make our move abroad very difficult with the cost of health insurance.

I've not done any research at all into staying in the UK (or maybe a move to Ireland), but it's looking like I might need to start or we will have to give up on our dream.

We would have a budget of up to 400k, happy with small renovations and as above want something very rural (as in being able to stand outside the front door naked kind of rural!!), with at least an acre of land. Obviously we have experience living very rurally ( both grew up with over an hour to the nearest supermarket!) And we have done basic renovation on our current house.

From a very quick search, it looks like Wales or Scottish Highlands and islands are the only places this is possible. Does anyone have any ideas of where to start my research?

I'm from South Lincolnshire and plenty of places there are pretty remote.

I mean it would not in any way be my choice but hey. Agree with PPs tho, medical care is a PITA there - nearest hospital not that near or good.

Edit to add: Just realised that it doesn't have any land apart from a big garden. You could buy a nearby field with the spare £75k tho. There must be plenty of places in S Lincs that fit your bill. What do you want the land for? Pony? Market garden? If the latter you can grow a feast in no time in S Lincs - it's not my favourite place but it has the best growing soil I have ever come across. I never had such a flourishing garden again.

Scottish/ Northumbrian borders or north Pennines/ rural county durham would be would a look.

Northern Ireland you get a lot of bang for your bucks! Once diagnosed the NHS is fab here you can ring your consultant up! The North coast beaches are unreal!

North east Scotland would get you that. I have that, bought it two years ago 300k.

Better internet here in Aberdeenshire than we did in a built up area of midlands. Starlink is wonderful. We also have line of sight to a mobile mast so have a 4g modem as back up which works well. We have 2acres and no neighbours. We are fifteen mins to supermarket and 45 to nearest city. We get grocery deliveries and Amazon. It’s wonderful here.
