Moving to Eastbourne

Hello, I'd love to hear views on Eastbourne - we are currently searching for properties in and around this area. We've heard Roselands, Hampden Park and Langney do not seem to have the best reputation. Although we've seen some lovely properties there.

We are particularly driven by schools - our DS is in year 3 (currently at a very good Catholic school) and our DD is 16 months. So somewhere family friendly, safe and with lots to do for the children. Our DS is very active and sporty, he currently plays for a local football club so would hope to continue this wherever we move to.

Diversity is something we also look for although we're not expecting an area to be anything like where we currently live in West London.😊Friendly and welcoming is what we would like.

We visited Eastbourne for the summer holidays and fell in love. We came back to view some properties in and around the area and the people we've met so far have been very friendly and good-willed. We love the vibe.

We also visited Horsebridge, some lovely properties there but all seemed quite close to the main road with lots of noise. Definitely open to exploring more. We did note there was poor network coverage there which wasn't great as we work a lot from home, so this is important.

We like Eastbourne for the easy commute to London for work, so any surrounding areas with easy access to London we'd be happy to consider too.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thank you.

I've only been to visit friends a few times but we love it. Great pier!

The west side is nicer than the east side, but also more expensive. You could also look at Polegate, next station up on the Eastbourne-Victoria line (though not sure what it's like, have never stopped off there).

I suggest you look at Cooden Beach/Little Common. Not far from Eastbourne with good road rail links. Good luck!

@TheRoseTurtleGood to know, thank you. Are there any parts in particular which you can recommend?

Meads village and surrounding roads are lovely

I moved to Eastbourne from London a couple of years ago, try old town we’ve got an outstanding primary school an old fashioned parade of shops with cafe’s , greengrocer, post office, bakery, deli, chemist, coop etc. I can walk onto the downs easily although a bit of a steep hill! the meads area is lovely too but expensive, it depends on how much you want to spend can you give an idea of budget? Polegate is not very nice.

I used to live in Eastbourne.

The redoubt area had always been quite popular, close to seaside and town but not so close that you get town noise and traffic. Though houses around there tend to be quite popular and character houses which isn't everyone's thing

Meads is lovely but a large community of old people and lots of flats but they have character and tend to be a bit pricey.

Hampden Park is awful so is Langley and shine water (aka crime water) and houses not tend have the location on them as it puts locals off. Polegate commuter town and is having a massive estate being built so it's gonna be a nightmare traffic wise.

Hailsham someone got stabbed and has high violence but outskirts are nice - lots of new build houses going in.

Old town is nice but not every good value for money in terms of cost vs space and has lots of secondary schools around that are highly rated.

Depends on what you like

@Overthegardenfence Thank you and to everyone who has commented. I'm hearing lots of lovely remarks about Old Town. My DH and I visited last weekend for the first time and we fell in love - it's beautiful. We're hoping to view some properties there in the next week or two. We have a conservative budget of 420K.

We also heard the school system in Old Town is really useful having both local primary and secondary schools.

Meads sounds lovely but there's not much on the market for our budget.😊

@hotandpermi I looked up properties in the Redout area and it's really good value for money there. Plus we love character properties, so it's definitely something to consider, thank you.

Thanks again all, these contributions have been really helpful.
