Someone told me it looks odd, does anyone have any knowledge/experience on this? And could tell me if it's okay and has been fitted correctly or otherwise?

Its difficult to see from that photo. Fitted wrong in what way ?

They said the lintel isn't going under the door frame....

Said they think the frame should be sitting on the steel bit you can see

Isn't the lintel deeper than the window frame as it's supporting the two wall leaves above, assuming it's a cavity walk? Your window frame edges would need to be about 6 inches across to match up with that!

Some of the steel may stick out in front of the frame..if they used some steel that is deeper than the door frame. The important thing is that it goes out beyond the door frame on both sides..to carry the load of the wall above the door

So the lintel is wider than the door..iyswim

That's what I think and have posted too @SeaToSki

The lintel should stand proud of the doorframe.

From my limited experience it will have been left visible so that Building Control can assess and sign off (if they plaster it over they often have to uncover for the inspection), but it looks OK.

I can't tell which bit of the door/window your photo is showing. Isn't the lintel the bit over the door / window?

NotMeNoNo · 06/09/2024 21:57

I'm not sure what your picture is showing. A lintel is like a bridge holding the weight of brickwork above a window or door. So it needs to be as thick as the house wall and wider than the opening as it needs to rest on the walls each side. The window frame should fit neatly under the lintel obviously or you would have a gap but it's not as thick.

The lintel looks like it is bigger than the frame as it should be and door frames can have packing around them to make them fit the gap because door frames aren’t structural. If it’s a new lintel building control should see it.
