Is anyone good at planning a room?

Moving soon and the main living space is an odd shape and I can't work out what to put where.

The max dimensions are 25' x 24' so it's a decent sized room but awkward.

It needs to incorporate TV, sofa/s, sideboard, a work area with a desk and as much storage as possible as the bedrooms aren't as big.

I've added a pic which shows the shape.

maybe something like this then when you're relaxing watching TV you're not having to sit and look at your work stuff too. That sideboard is probably a bit out of proportion!!

sorry, tried to copy & paste and it didn't work!

Like it @MiddleAgedDread. I was hoping to put the desk near to a window (art) but I like the idea of having all of the chaos out of my line of vision when watching TV.

How about swapping the desk and bookcase above?

MiddleAgedDread · 06/09/2024 13:55

I know what you mean about a window near the desk, you could swap it with the bookcase / drawers as suggested above and put it behind the sofa in the corner. if you did that you could probably get an L shaped desk or one with a small set of drawers next to it to maximise storage space

Loving these ideas, thank you. We currently only have one sofa, albeit a large one but I think 2 would work better tho sort of close off a seating area.

I’d put the desk in the pointy window corner and the tv between the other two windows, with an L-shaped sofa facing it. Then bookcases between the doors on the left and the kitchen (or cabinet if you’d prefer closed storage), and in the bottom left corner. Armchair and reading lamp floating away from wall in front of double window of room.

I'd build a desk under pointy window so you get good light. Built ins with sliding doors for storage along angled wall. TV In-between windows, with a sofa and arm chair (s) if space looking out/towards tv.
Sideboard or more storage at top left of the room.

Desk if used often, should be placed with seat back to wall , feng shui wise
just redid my sitting room , with the desk facing the wall , it’s awful just can’t settle there

These are great ideas. It does look like there will be space for extra storage, possibly along the sloping wall. There's a fire place along that wall but I'd be happy to get rid of it as it's in the wrong place to be a focal point and the electric fire won't be used.

The other option might be to have the TV within a built-in wall and storage unit on the wall with no windows and two sofas in a V shape facing it, then desk and more storage under the windows

Goatblu · 06/09/2024 20:29

I'd like the TV in one of the corners I think so that the sofas face the garden.

Personally I think it looks great, it forces you to be creative and your home will be like no one else’s.

if it’s large enough, centre your sofas and coffee table to the middle of the room, make that cosy.

the rest of the room, just add the right addition furniture around it: console, desk, little table, storage etc

Goatblu · 07/09/2024 13:03

I just want it to look tidy @gurgleenglish ! Hence the need to get as much storage in there as possible as needing to be several areas in one, I don't want it to look disjointed.
