Moving boiler cost

I’ve just had a quote of £2.5k to move the boiler (which we’re keeping as it’s only 4 years old) into another room which seems a bit steep! Is this about right?

Sounds expensive to me but depends what it involves. Every job is different.

There are all the connections, maybe extending pipework if necessary, installing a new flue and method of disposal of the condensing fluid. It may also need an electrician to connect it up - normally the boiler is on a separate breaker.

It's a shame that the boiler is only 4 years old as it would be an ideal time to replace it. Plus the job would probably be a bit quicker with a new one so probably cost less on the labour.

The only way really to find out whether you have been overquoted is the usual thing of getting 3 different quotes and seeing how they compare. Traders will often quote silly money if they have too much work on, so their prices can vary hugely.

On the quote it says it should take approx 2 to 3 days plus £500 of materials with VAT included. So I am either paying approx £650 per day for 3 days work or £1k per day for 2 days work!

Where are you having it moved from/to and what work needs to be done? If you’re moving it to a different floor, to an internal wall or room, and more than one trade is going to be required, £2.5k and 2-3 days sounds accurate: the labour cost reflects that you’re paying the day rate of more than one person. It’s always worth getting at least three quotes for comparison though if you feel you’re not getting good value.
