Sash windows

Hello,

In desperate need of two sash windows being replaced - wood is rotten to the point that if we don't fix soon the glass might fall out!

Quotes are coming back at £3k+ per window!!

Can anyone recommend a more affordable company - unfortunately we live in a conservation area and so the windows have to be wood (UPvC not allowed)

Thank you

Rachel

Where in the country are you? DH's cousins do this sort of work, independent cabinet makers and joiners.

Sorry - the relations are in County Durham!

@ThatCosyPanda we used timbertherm but they did cost about £2.5k. Also used London box sash but if you think £3k is a lot you won't like their prices!

There is a company called Brockley something who refurb windows. I'll try and find out the name but as the name suggests, they're based in Brockley and are used to conservation areas.

Brockley Glass!

I’d recommend checking eBay, as you could likely find a better deal than £3k per window. I had my carpenter make mine for £1.5k per window, but he didn’t replace the entire frame, so they’re not as snug as what a specialist box sash window company might provide. I would suggest going with a company that specializes in this and does nothing else.

Sashco. That being said, I think 3k may be the going rate for wooden sashes and the weights etc.

I can highly recommend Peter Denney, Sash Window Doctor, based in Dartford, operates SE London. He made 3 windows for me, in a conservation area, a few years ago so I can't remember the prices but recall they were very reasonable.

Do not go to a big company. Have a look on Checkatrade for a joiner and Carpenter invite him round to give you a quote, as it could be that only some of the window needs replacing. This is what I did recently and he charged me £200 per window.

Search for a local joiner.

@kirinm is it North London Box Sash you used? Am looking at them at the moment to do our windows. If so, were you happy with them if you don’t mind me asking?

We are south east. I absolutely love the windows they did for us.

Oh sorry, no they're called London Box Sash
