Stumbled across this Instagram page

It's our dream to renovate a house in this manner! I'm just wondering what a rough estimate would be of something like this 🧐

Depends on what you're starting with, surely?

Geneticsbunny · 02/09/2024 14:45

She has built an extension and stripped absolutely all of the life and character out of the house. I recon you would be in for about £200,000 plus the price of the house at least.

Tupster · 02/09/2024 16:09

I imagine you could get a good bulk deal on all that grey paint.

msp2023 · 02/09/2024 18:42

I meant more so the extension/balcony etc, not the furnishings and interior decor lol.

I preferred the house before she did all that! But to answer your question, in my experience the biggest factor would be things that vary house to house like whether they need a new roof/ some boring but invisible expensive structural thing doing. That house looks 100 years old to me and probably would have had that kind of boring/ expensive thing to do but what she has created could have been done in a much newer house and decor itself can be almost as much or as little as you want.

I think £200K is probably a good ball park though, for a bit of extension, some necessary remedial work and mid range decor/ furniture, especially if you do some of the decoration and so forth yourself.

Where in the country are you/is she?

In the expensive South East it could be £400-500k depending on the level of finish, bespoke carpentry, kitchen supplier, flooring type and whether you include garden landscaping.

TomatoSandwiches · 02/09/2024 18:59

You could buy a copy and paste newbuild for less than the bones of a similar house and then the hassle of having works done, this example is not a unique extension/renovation, I wouldn't waste yout time tbh.

GalileoHumpkins · 02/09/2024 20:20

It's all so bland, absolutely no personality in that house.

msp2023 · 02/09/2024 21:00

Thank you those who had helpful responses.
And please see previous comment - my question is NOT in relation to the decor, more so the structure of the renovated property.

@GalileoHumpkins oh bore off! Can't see where you were asked for your opinion on interior decor :)

Buckinghamshire.
Which is where we would be looking too.

If you click thru her instagram page you will find the builder that did the renovation. I think if you have a project in mind in a similar area then having a chat with the builder about what you actually want to achieve is a good start. It will be a lot. More than you expect. But better to get a realistic idea of cost and see how you could make the house you want to renovate work for the budget you have. Good luck!!

@TooTiredToType77 ah you superstar!! I didn't even think of that. Thank you so much d

I think they have made a fantastic job. Cost wise you have got to looking at 200-300. For something like that..

kirinm · 03/09/2024 20:16

Looks like they've massively extended that. Your average side return extension on a standard Victorian house (in London) is c£150k now so I'd imagine you'd be looking at double that and more.

Construction work costs so much now so you'd need to be sure you'd make your money back because you would be spending a lot.

(The brickwork looks awful).
