Hi I am just stressing to much. I live in newham and applied for council house 7 years ago but never got a offer .my son is autistic and I am living in a overcrowded house which belongs to my mother in law .me husband and 2 boys sharing one bedroom .I filled in my son's medical form in January and keeping on sending them email for response. Last week I was lucky to speak to a housing officer on the phone and he said I have prioritised your son's application and you are closer to get a decision but I cant give you a date .I am so confused and stressed. Can anyone help me what should I expect .any one had similar case as me .

Best staring your own thread. This one’s about the OP 😊

Back in 1983,my husband and I waited just under 6 months for a permanent place. Sounds unbelievable now as my DD and her DH were on the waiting list for nearly 10 years. This was in West London (for both).

6 weeks. I applied to my housing association directly though.
sometimes they put houses up outside of waiting lists. I applied. Got a decision a week later then had to wait 5 weeks for the house to be ready. ( repairs from previous tenant and them emptying it)

I had a similar experience. I was on the council list for 2 years. My accomodation was adequate so I knew it would be a long wait.

I'd gone in to the council office for something and I saw a flyer for HA new build bungalows for older or disabled people. I applied and in a couple of weeks I was in my new home, I am still here 20 years later.

Obviously having a disability made a difference.

Hi thanks everyone for replying just a update on my housing. Council put us in a group which is sovp due to overcrowding and my son's medical. When when I bid my number going to 80,100,35,55 etc .i am migraine anxiety depression patient and with housing situation my systems are gone worse I am taking talking therapy. I filled in my medical form to .every week I bid then wait and nothing is coming up .I live in newham. I am giving up and so hopeless 😔

As I said before you need to contact the LA support service for disability and get the OT team to do a housing report on the current property for adaptations for your disabled child, provided they need adaptations and receive HRC of DLA (this proves their needs are throughout the night and cannot share a room with another child)

Ours needed extensive adaptations for my son and due to the severity of his needs it was stated he cannot share with his brother. Having documented evidence from the housing OT will put you in a higher band than you would be if you were just applying because of overcrowding. Obviously if this isn't applicable to your child then you won't be able to get the report.

My cousin waited ten years for their flat. They have various physical and mental disabilities.

Just an update….. I waited 11 months and was offered a new build so it can be quick (ish)
