LVT flooring - is it slippy?

We're about to redo all of our downstairs flooring and were set on having LVT like Amtico or Karndean. We would much prefer solid wood but with young kids and pets we thought this would be more durable.

We're currently staying at an Air bnb with LVT flooring and its so slippy! I've almost ended up in the splits a few times! Is all LVT like this? I'm worried about potentially spending so much on a floor that will end up being like an ice rink for my kids and dog.

I have amtico and it isn't slippery at all

JBJ · 28/08/2024 19:57

I've got it all throughout the downstairs and it's not sloppy at all.

Blueybanditbingochilli · 28/08/2024 19:58

I have it and it isn’t slippery. Be very careful who installs it though - the tiles in our kitchen were badly fitted and have separated, with cracks between them and where one ends and another begins.

I have Amtico in the bathroom and it’s definitely not slippy

Also got LVT in 3 bathrooms and no one has ever slipped. We've got very old cushion flooring in the kitchen which is lethal when wet. Can't wait to replace that.

I have Karndean and the surface is sort of ridged like wood grain so definitely not slippy.

Thanks everyone! This is really helpful 👍🏻

OTOH we have solid wood in the kitchen & dining and it is incredibly slippy when freshly cleaned. The cats hate it when they careen into walls or cant get purchase. So I rarely clean it thoroughly, just sweep and spot clean - is a good excuse anyway!

We have Karndean and it’s definitely not slippy. The only time we’ve ever had an issue was when we had a patch repaired and the fitter used some kind of silicone spray, that area was like ice until i could get it off.

We've just moved into a house with LVT (no idea what particular type). It's incredibly slippy, the dog is struggling with it, I've nearly stacked it multiple times wearing socks so we've had to invest in non-slip socks/slippers. We had click-in laminate from Wickes in our previous house, cheap and cheerful, and we much preferred it.

Yesiwantacookie · 29/08/2024 10:23

We have recently installed Invictus in our kitchen (a cheaper brand of lvt) and chose one that is quite ridged in texture so it's not slippy at all, much more grip than the previous laminate floor that was down before.

Kitkat1523 · 29/08/2024 10:26

Ours isn’t slippy….ours has ridges….like real wood would have

ParentOfOne · 29/08/2024 10:27

We have Karndean and we love it. Wood is of course much much nicer but not as durable, especially with kids. Not all synthetic floors are created equal!
We have two couples of friends with Amtico and theirs is in very good conditions after more than 6 years, and not slippery, either.

pinklemonsparkle · 29/08/2024 11:39

We have Harvey Maria LVT in our bathroom and it isn't slippy at all.

Looks great too.. highly recommend 👍

LoveSandbanks · 29/08/2024 12:17

our downstairs is all Amtico. The living room was carpeted but we replaced it with lvt. It’s not remotely slippy and almost bullet proof. We absolutely love it. Really practical with kids and pets.

midgetastic · 29/08/2024 12:28

Kardean everywhere - not slippy even when wet

RidingMyBike · 29/08/2024 16:32

We deliberately chose LVT as it isn't slippy! We went for Amtico but Karndean was the same. Go to one of the showrooms and feel the texture of it.

In previous houses we've had tiles or laminate in the kitchen and both were lethal when wet which is why we chose LVT this time.

RidingMyBike · 29/08/2024 16:34

Interesting that the posts where someone has found LVT slippy they don't know the brand so that must make a difference!

Sanch1 · 29/08/2024 16:39

I mean, if you want to do a cool skid and slide across it it's awesome, but it's not slippy day to day! Got three kids and we have no issues with anyone going flying regularly!

LindaDawn · 29/08/2024 17:29

I have amtico just fitted in our family room (kitchen, snug and dinning area) and it’s not at all slippery. Also have another make in bathroom and again not slippery.
