anyone used homeserve to fix the pipe which supplies water from water main to their main stop cock?

Just wondering how it went?

I have homeserve fro my water pipe insurance (thank god) and it looks like there is a leak between my water meter and my main stop cock

(eiterh that or the meter is faulty, possible but not likely)

anyway it seems i have £2000 of cover for new pipes.

the guy from the water company said "homeserve choose what to do"... you have to have their (super expense approved by them) plumbers and they will take the easiest route for the pipe to go.... which apparently is NOT underground past the side of my house (where the pipe is now)
but
under the paving in my front garden
through my porch
into my hall
up the wall into a bedroom (with lovely laminate floor that will have to come up), and under my landing floor (again up come my lovely fitted carpet)
into my bathroom (just redocarted looking beutiful will all need to come up)
and down into my kitchen (which im about to rip out and luckily i dont care what happens to it

Not lookingforward to it in the slightest

so has anyone had a new mains water pipe fitted from the mains to their stopcock... was it ok etc etc?

am getting all stressed abou this now

I have used my homeserve insurance loads, once just yesterday for a blocked drain with raw sewage poring out - oh the joys of not having mains drainage!

I've always found the plumbers sent by them are not employees of Homeserve but contractors and local companies. Drainking 'do' drains and the few other leaky bits I've had have been dealt with by small firms.

Surely they must be able to compromise over the pipe? Perhaps you should get a quote for how much to repair/replace all floorings etc which will have to be pulled up and ask them if they will compensate you or consider the less destructive route around the outside.

Good luck, I always find making them lots of cups of tea encourages them to go the extra mile!

thanks for that...

maybe we will eb able to compromise on where the pipe goes

the thing is it being a mains water pipe it will need to go really deep in the ground (so it doesnt freeze apparently) and they wont want to dig up really deep the side of my house....

(though i would rather they did that than bash right through my house)
guess when i talk to them ill find out more

We had 'cover' with Homeserve and when our drains collapsed we were quoted £2500 to fix it, including closing the road, traffic calming measures!! etc etc. We weren't convinced so contacted our house insurers Direct Line...who fixed it for nothing.

Could your house insurance cover it?

marmadukescarlet · 17/04/2008 23:05

I am actually about to switch our pipe etc cover over to direct line as they have unlimited callouts and homeserve don't.

We live in a dodgy old place character house and I have Homeserve on speed dial!

I would always go with Direct Line over homeserve. Doesn't help the op I know, just my experience!
