Fab house - dire garden!

House hunting at the moment, and struggling to find anywhere which fits our needs (can't be flexible on size or location). I've found a house which ticks all the boxes, but the garden is a hideous concrete yard. Wondering whether it could be nice if we removed all the concrete, and screened it off for some privacy - right next to a pretty busy pavement/junction. Or whether I'm on a hiding to nothing and should keep looking. WWYD?

Another vote for trellis on the walls. I'd take the concrete out, but if you didn't want to, or needed to save up for that first, some climbers can be grown in big tubs or 'half-barrels that would do nicely on the trellis, and you could grow other things in pots or troughs.

We had a patch of concrete about 3x4m. We hired a jack hammer thingy and DH & DC dug it up. We were lucky that it had been badly laid with nothing but earth under it. It was a pig of a job and there was a lot of trips to the tip, nothing clever but slow and laborious. I would think carefully about how much actually needs removing, you could just lay some gravel on top of some of it. Raised beds will need drainage, so not ideal to build on top of concrete and if they are a decent size you will need lorry loads of soil to fill them

Thanks so much for all the replies! Lots to think about. I'm feeling like it might be biting off more than I can chew 😬 Maybe I need Kirstie and Phil instead of Monty Don 🤣
