house rewire - TV?

Hi all, I'm getting my house fully rewired in two weeks, and thereafter getting it all nicely decorated.

I don't watch TV much and so don't really have one for the last few years. I normally just watch netflix on my laptop from time to time.

I want to get a flatscreen TV now though because when i have guests over, family and friends, i'd like to watch TV and netflix etc on there instead, it's more comfortable and i want my guests to be comfortable.

anyway, as I haven't owned a tv for so long, I'm not sure how the TV works these days.

I want to avoid wires or just too many hanging from it. Can I get a TV that plugs into a socket, but doesn't need the aerial thing that's on the roof?

I am interested in getting Sky, but don't like the idea of having the satellite dish thing installed.

I'd be grateful if people can tell me how their TV "plugs in". I just know very little about the tech these days.

thank you

Mine is just connected to power.

All the programs etc. get to it via the internet to which it is connected by WiFi.

I've never felt the need for sky as the streaming services have provided everything I need but I understand that now Sky is also available via WiFi without needing a dish.

You can get sky by Wi-Fi. I got the advert through my door a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t signed up but I think it’s a dongle that plugs into the TV.

I use a Roku streaming stick (another dongle that plugs into the TV) for Netflix, Disney plus, catch up TV etc. A smart TV would work instead.

I can’t see why you would need more than a plug with the right TV / attachment.

We have sky glass which is a flat screen tv with sky built into it plus all the apps are stored on the tv. It is a bit pricey but we needed a new tv and wanted a new tv package so it was a good option for us. You can get the sky package without the tv using a device they provide. Both are streamed via WiFi so no dish needed.

One word of advice, if you do go with sky then I would personally avoid getting your WiFi through them as I see a lot of complaints about the WiFi going down and then you can't watch tv.

So we have BT WiFi and then sky tv. All works perfectly and I have no complaints.

Another option is NowTv which is a lot cheaper but I think you only get apps and then movies and series.

Cheapest option in my opinion is a firestick with whatever apps you're happy to pay for. Plugs directly into your tv similar to NowTv.

All of the above options will just be one or two plugs depending on what device you go for and no need for a dish or aerial.

We have a Samsung Frame. It looks like a picture on the wall and the thin cables run down through the wall (we had a channel made in the wall for it) to a box that is hidden in the cupboard. You can chose what picture it displays when it is off. Mine looks something like this
