Wool vs 80/20 carpet - microplastics etc

Hi! I’d love some opinions on this. We’re about to buy a new carpet for our new (hopefully) forever home. We’d like something long lasting. I’ve been reading about trying to reduce exposure to microplastics in the home, so I’m leaning towards 100% wool so that microplastics are not released from carpet fibres into the air in our home. But is 80% wool 20% man-made fibres sufficient to prevent this?l (am I just going over the top!)? What have others (who also care about these things) opted for? There are obviously benefits of 80/20, eg easier to clean, and slightly cheaper, however I’m prioritising health at the moment.

oh and to add, either way we’d choose one that has been treated to prevent moths.

thanks for all and any opinions! x

Buy engineered wood, carpets are out of fashion.

I agree with Papricat - engineered wood. I have the whole of downstairs done plus the loft conversion and landings.
I love it. Just getting master bedroom done and then have just 2 small bedrooms left to be done. Looks fab with sheepskin rugs.

I’d stay away from wool carpet unless you want moths!

We have 100% wool carpets (from the 1960s) and have never had moths.

We're having engineered wood downstairs, but planned for carpet on stairs, landing and bedrooms. Unfortunately we've already had the new skirting laid in those areas, so don't think engineered wood is an option now without getting stuff redone, which we can't afford time or money wise at this stage :(
