Early termination of tenancy issue

Hi mumsneters,
First time posting here but I'm hoping your wisdom can help me shed some light on the situation I'm in- sorry in advance this is a bit long. I signed a 1 year fixed tenancy agreement in January 2024 through estate agency. The property I live in comprises of 5 flats and was owned by the same landlord who a few months ago sold it to another landlord. Due to various issues, some to do with neighbours, some to do with work, I requested the landlord to terminate my tenancy early, which was mentioned in my tenancy agreement, and I agreed to pay fees of reletting property. This was communicated via estate agent who confirmed in writing that landlord agreed and property is going on the market. This was 29th July and property was advertised as available from 30th of September so giving plenty of time to hopefully get new tenant and for me to find a place to move to. There were a number of viewings and agent told me there was a lot of interest so property will be let out with no issues. I started looking too which has been quite stressful as property is moving very fast in London as you can imagine. Anyway, this Friday 16th August I got an email from agent saying landlord has now decided to sell the property. I wrote to agent asking exactly what this means to me. Eventually I managed to get hold of them and was told that landlord wants to test the market and is putting lettings side on hold. Agent said they had actually found a tenant but will need to put that on hold and as for me the landlord will let me go if he gets an offer to buy. Sales of flats in my area are not moving fast at all so i could end up staying here until my tenancy ends in January 2025. I also don't understand if he wants to sell it with tensnt in situ or as empty property which isn't easy to with with tenant present? This was not what was agreed in writing nor was it discussed with me. I did write to them saying that the change of agreement is both unfair and unreasonable and that has created a lot of uncertainty in terms me being able to move etc. Can you please advice me where I stand? We agreed I will pay and stay until new tenant is found which appears has happened however as he wants to sell I cannot leave as I cannot afford to pay for a new and current property if I move. Can you advice me as to best course of action ? Many thanks all !
