Electric heating system

Just wondered if someone could help please. Looking to buy a house in the next village along from us. The only problem is they are all electric heating systems.

Just wondering if someone could advise how much they pay monthly for electricity if you have a full electric system?

For reference the house is a 3 bed mid terrace.

It would be useful to know if the house you looked at has a heat pump or solar panels as this will have quite a big impact.

Hard to tell. As above if you have a heat pump or solar it can be cheap.

If direct electric is normally 3x more expensive for the same house per unit than gas.

But...you don't need a boiler service per year saving you £100. You don't need to replace the boiler every 15 years wich probably works out to saving £150 per year. You can get on economy 7 which can save you money if the house is well insulated. You don't have to maintain radiators which probably saves you £50-100 per year.

Plus electricity is more controllable than gas. You can heat only the rooms you want to more easily, and more efficiently.

It depends a lot on the type or style of house. A new build that is strongly insulated may hardly require any heating at all as a terrace. A draughty victorian might be a nightmare.

The only way to know for sure is to ask the seller for the bills. Or maybe ask the neighbours. And even then it depends on their heating preferences. Some people will live in a freezing house, others like it like a sauna.

Oh yes, and check out the EPC which is available on line if you enter the postcode and house number. It won't be fully accurate but will give you a rough idea of the energy efficiency.

Could you ask the vendors for recent bills? Preferably a winter one.

There are too many variables for people to give you an accurate answer.

I'm all electric (no gas here) but my main source of heat is from a wood burner. I also have solar panels and am on economy 7.

I love my solar panels but realistically they won't produce enough on most winter days to power heating. The summer savings offset it but the idea that heat pumps 'run on solar ' isn't entirely accurate.

My bills are very low but I'd also say my house is not as toasty as most people I know with gas. You learn to use electric differently. You can't open all the windows and then expect it to heat up 10 minutes later. It's more about maintaining constant temperature but it's not always as high as you'd set the thermostat on a boiler.
