So we bought a house 5 years ago and I decided to find a builder who will renovate our en suite as was fed up with cleaning the grout and the tiles (we live in the area with hard water). It wasn’t looking too ugly, but mouldy in places and some tiles started to discolour.

Our builder talked me into installing the panels instead as it will be super easy to clean. Now the work is completed, I’m not sure if I like it as it looks a bit cheap🤔

The house is 10 years old and we will be planning to move in about 7-8 years time because of the school situation.

My question is: do you think the en suite looks tacky? Would you buy it if you liked the rest of the house? Everything works well and I like how clean it is, but really started doubting myself whether I should have gone for tiles instead.. oh dear!

I’ve attached the before and after pics.

Tbh I did prefer the tiles but I really really like tiles. The panels look good though too. Problem for me is that the painted wall appears to be a sort of cool blueish colour, whereas the panels and the flooring are a warm cream. I think it’d look a lot more cohesive if the paint was redone to a warmer shade of some sort - if it were me I’d do it warm soft sage green because I love it! Or just a more warm white, with a couple of plants in there to add some colour.

I was coming on to say this. The paint doesn’t match at all, you need a warm cream with those panels, they clash. If you match the paint to the panels of will look lovely

If you get decent large format tiles you hardly get any grout. I also cannot remember when I last saw a bathroom with pot plants. Somewhat dated. Clean and sleek is not pictures and pot plants in 2024.

Not everyone's after a minimalist (boring) bathroom. Most family homes want some personality and colour, in my experience. Potted plants are actually perfect for a bathroom, they love the humidity and add some 'tropical' feel to the space.

Oh dear. Guilty on both counts. I have a picture and large pot plant in my otherwise clean and fairly sleek bathroom which does however have large white tiles.

God forbid we should have anything different from the current look.

Op, it's good to have easy to clean but as others have said your en suite would look so much better if you changed the wall colour.

Definitely not dated!
Plants can make even a minimalist room stunning.

You can get the wall panels in ‘tile effect’ and matte, so easy to clean but maybe a bit more aesthetically pleasing.
