Removing wallpaper

Looking for some tips..

I have some lovely textured wallpaper in my bedroom that I am currently removing. Not quite woodchip but similar.

Under the wallpaper is at least two layers of paint. One firmly stuck to the wall and the other very flakey on top.

It has taken me so long to steam off the wallpaper and chip off two layers of paint to take it back to the plaster to paint.

Am I missing a trick? Do I have to remove all layers of paint too? It literally took hours today to complete one small wall.

Can I get away with sanding and not removing? Or is removing all paint needed?
I'm desperate to get the walls stripped and ready to paint but today was such a painful experience!!

Thanks in advance!!

I think I would sand it, although v messy. Get yourself an electric sander and remember to put on 😷.
Good luck

Don’t bother getting the paint off. Just buy some rolls of the very best grade lining paper. Hang that on the walls and then paint it. You wouldn’t even know it the wall was papered once it’s painted. Just sand the walls lightly before hanging the paper.

Can highly recommend paper tiger, bladed wallpaper scraper and a steamer for the wallpaper if it's woodchip-esque - still painful but comes off a lot better! I think you can get some chemical strippers for paint removal if you don't want to get the sanding route, but if it's really stuck on I'd be tempted to sand also
