Considering a renovation project

But we've got NO experience. In our current house we did take out a wall and convert 2 rooms into a kitchen diner and replace windows etc but that's all.
The house we like has been extended so we wouldn't need to do that BUT the layout is crap and we'd need to take out internal walls / add doorways / rejig rooms etc. is that do-able really for people without experience? Do you need architects? I think we just used a structural engineer before (if I remember correctly) because it was only the one wall.
Like I said the external walls are all fine and done but the interior pretty much needs to start again. It's a probate house and nothing has really been done in 20 years or so.
Advise please. It is lovely. But I'm a bit scared it might be too much for us.
We'd obviously get a full structural survey before we bought it as it's been empty a while...

Get a builder and they’ll usually provide the architects. You can do as much or as little as you want. Our neighbour is a builder and he knocked down our kitchen internal wall to make a kitchen diner and installed the new beams. He sourced the plasterer. My husband decided to install the kitchen to save a few grand.

You can start with a program to draw house plans and go from there. Work on the general planning first if you would like to re-do it, then think of color scheme and decorations you'd like to have. Check out boards on Pinterest as some really great styling ideas could be found there, etc...

We bought a renovation project - I was 21 DH was 29 we loved it. We had no experience apart from watching our dad’s DIY over the years. We moved walls, replaced ceilings, added a couple of windows, converted the garage to another room. DH’s plastering left a lot to be desired to begin with but he got it in the end.
You just need to get stuff signed off for building regs.
The only professionals we paid for were gas fitters to do the boiler and central heating. We had a mate who is an electrician check what DH did was safe.

Nobody has any experience when they first start……….you learn as you go along.

You do have some experience as you have already done a bigger job than most people will ever do.
