Leaving garden notes for buyers?

Moreveganice · 11/08/2024 19:47

Sold our house and are moving soon. Just wondering about the etiquette of leaving some notes about the garden - the variety of the apple trees and what herbs there are etc. Would you like this/find it helpful? Or is it inappropriate and to be avoided?

I would like it as I'm a gardener. I expect most people would think it odd and not read them.

Doggymummar · 11/08/2024 19:50

I think it's a lovely idea

Eggnogg90 · 11/08/2024 19:50

This is really lovely

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 11/08/2024 19:51

I'd like it. Even if I wasn't a gardener, I'd likely offer them to someone else who was and would refer your notes to them.

Cleebope2 · 11/08/2024 19:51

Yes a lovely idea. Our previous owners did this for me and left me a huge gardening book! To my shame I never used them though!

KeepinOn · 11/08/2024 19:53

I would love this.

MillshakePickle · 11/08/2024 19:56

I'd love it, and even if for some reason I'd want to relandscape, I would choose something "original" so the house's garden legacy could live on for as long as possible. It would also show how care and consideration has gone into the property.

I was wondering about this recently too. I'd appreciate it but I realise not everyone is interested.

I'd offer first, then if they say yes, send them the lists/plans. You could label specific plants with tags too.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 11/08/2024 19:58

I’d love it, as I love a garden but have no clue. It would be like a gentle education.

Guavafish1 · 11/08/2024 19:58

I think it’s lovely idea.

When I moved into my new house the previous owner gave me handy numbers and some instructions about varies things in the flat. I could tell they really cared about the house/home.

I'd love this, and if they don't appreciate it then it's their loss.

AnneKipankitoo · 11/08/2024 20:00

That is great. I would love that. Do you have photos of the garden too?

OldTinHat · 11/08/2024 20:01

I left a whole load of info about bin collections, take aways, neighbours, schools, pubs and a mass of tourist type leaflets (purchasers were moving from a different area). The garden didn't cross my mind!

Tupster · 11/08/2024 20:05

Worst that can happen is they'll throw it away unread - and you'll never know if they did that. Definitely isn't inappropriate!

mnahmnah · 11/08/2024 20:08

We moved in November and would have loved this! We didn’t have a garden before and i don’t have the foggiest about any of it. We nearly ripped a whole border out because we assumed the plants were dead. Turns out they are fruit bushes and some gorgeous flowers!

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 11/08/2024 20:36

Wonderful idea!

Wrongsideofpennines · 11/08/2024 20:38

We would have loved this. We spent the first 6 months waiting for the plums to appear on the tree only to discover it was an apple tree. We then wasted a year cooking the apples before finding out it was a regular apple tree the year after!

Mindymomo · 11/08/2024 20:42

I would have loved this, as I spent a fortune on plants which I planted near to conifer bushes, not knowing that nothing would grow there.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 11/08/2024 20:46

I would love this too! What a lovely thing to do!

Same!

I think it's a lovely idea OP

I don't think anyone would think it inappropriate. Some people would be more interested than others for sure but I can't see anyone minding

Coastalcreeksider · 11/08/2024 20:48

When we sold my dad's house, we left all the usual info, bin collection days and instruction booklets for cooker, shower and ch boiler but in the garden, dad's compost bin had slow worms in it so I left that info as they are protected.

Also mentioned the foxes liked to sunbathe on the grass bank and a pair of squirrels liked to visit most days.

I really hope they didn't do anything to get rid of the compost bin and it's tenants.

RickiRaccoon · 11/08/2024 21:06

I appreciate it. The owners of our first house did this for us so I also left a small gardening note to look out for the peonies and freesias (plus a few rubbish bags and collection info, extra paint and tiles).

These previous owners just had a few random plants but we had to wait to see if we had raspberries or blackberries and, a whole year later, I've worked out one citrus tree is a lime but am still waiting to see what another one is because it was small and struggling and so hasn't had any fruit yet.

Newhere5 · 11/08/2024 21:15

I’d have really loved that. It’s a very kind thing to do
