What type of solicitors to use?

Just accepted offer on my property and had my offer accepted on the one I want to buy. I need to appoint a solicitor today or tomorrow. So far I have quotes from the solicitor I used as a first time buyer, a local one who was good last time and a quote from the estate agents of my purchases in house one. Both are around 3k for buy and sell. I can afford this BUT I only have the savings to do this once, if everything were to fall through at a point where I owe most of the 3k for the work done I'd have to save again to afford fees which would take time and delay things.
I'm tempted to use either the cheapest package I've found on the internet (£1700 for sale and buy) or a no sale no fee. What are peoples experiences of internet cheapies or no sale no fee please? or any recommendation's?

After an awful experience with on-line company who were closed by the law society mid purchase I would always go with a recommended local firm.

It's possible to buy home buyers protection insurance where you make a claim if the deal falls through.
Avoid internet deals, many of these firms are dreadful and because they are not local they may be unaware of local issues.
Go for a local solicitor with a fixed price deal for buying.
When we sold our house, we used a local firm and there were no issues whereas our buyers used an internet firm based some distance away and were really slow.

Don’t go with a cheap online company. Worse experience ever, and nearly cost us out sale and subsequently the whole chain. The stress of me chasing constantly was not worth it. Good luck x

Use a local solicitor with an office you can actually go into and speak to real people. Take out insurance in case of non completion.
I will not buy or sell to people using only on line services.

Thanks, had not considered home buyers insurance. How straightforward is it to claim though? I'd be sceptical about waiting months to partially recover costs, which would not help me much if the chain collapsed and I needed to re appoint solicitors.
Taken on board the advice about using a local solicitors, that was my gut feeling that internet cheapies would cause more problems than they solved!

Whatever you do don't go with a cheap online or long distance company. DS had a nightmare with one based in Newcastle.
Pick someone local even if it costs more.

Echo everyone else. You get what you pay for. Do not whatever you do use an online conveyancing factory.

we just paid more for a “better” solicitor and it’s been worth every penny. No stress and he’s been totally on everything, we’ve not needed to worry, and we’ve exchanged in speedy time. I wouldn’t skimp on solicitors.
