Moving to Mansfield

Hi,

After much debating it looks like I may be moving to Mansfield. I am aware of the problems the area has and many people have told me it's not an ideal location. Nevertheless, it looks like I may have to move to the area (I am not judging the area,I'm just repeating what I've heard).

I don't have a very big budget - £170k, ideally not much higher. The areas I've been looking at are Forest Town, Clipstone and Rainworth and £170 seems do-able for a lower end house it seems.

The question I really wanted to ask is about local walks (for a dog who can walk for hours on end but getting him in the car is like torture). I know of the pines, Forest, Cumberland Park etc but was looking at 'quieter walks also'. From looking at the map it does appear that there are walks around, particularly to the south of Mansfield and also the East (I appreciate the east is mainly the pines). I just wanted to make sure this was the case. I don't have the time (or energy) to battle trying to get the dog in the car daily so on the days he doenst want to get in the car I just wanted to make sure I was positioning myself in a location that had some good walks we could walk too (he does like a long walk....1.5 hours plus if I have the time).

Obviously the peaks and lots of walks further afield are available when he wants to get in the car and I have the time on weekends.

So, basically it appears I'm revolving my move to Mansfield around the availability of dog walks 😂. Unfortunately due to caring responsibilities I can't even come down to stay for a few days to scope out the local walk so only coming for a day at a time and relying on what I can see on the map.

I just thought it might be worthwhile to ask for some local advice.

Any advice would be really helpful and much appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, you said ANY advice… have you asked your vet or any other owners about a calming spray? We used to get stuff for the cats that would chill them out a bit before putting them in carriers.

Thanks. I should have mentioned, we only have one family car, which my husband has in the week so needed local walks anyway. Thank you tho.

There are several country parks around that area. Clumber, Newstead, Rufford, Sherwood Forest. All of which will involve a car journey though.

There is a large estate in between Clipstone and Kings Clipstone which has a range of houses all different budgets with plenty of dog walks and walking trails directly to Sherwood Forest ... that could be a good place to look 🙂

Vicar Water Country Park is in Clipstone and is a popular dog walking park. You can do shorter walks around the pond at Vicars itself , or extend the walk into Sherwood Pines (Vicars and Pines are connected by footpaths).

Clumber Park is massive, but I think you’d need to be become a National Trust member , if you aren’t already, if you go regularly because I think it’s at least £6 to park nowadays.

There are some good spots in Mansfield Woodhouse for walks - there’s the Manor Recreation Park, Yeoman Hill Park and a fairly large walk at Oxclose Woods next to Mansfield Woodhouse train station.

I recommend The Carrs in Warsop; it’s a great walking location (all flat) and free parking , and there’s a part with really shallow river/stream so the dogs can paddle :)

Lots of forest walks from the door in Rainworth. But the next village, Blidworth, is nicer and has many walks too!
