Appliance garage- built in microwave?

I am having a debate with my builder. I want my microwave tucked away in a cupboard behind doors which I would open to use microwave. I think I will need a built in microwave, he says not. Surely I risk overheating otherwise? Toaster also going in there but on a pull out shelf. Don't fancy that for microwave. The rest of the appliances will all just be stored in there but taken out to use.
Grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Microwaves have to have space behind and above too

@ChillinwiththeVillains Why not just buy a built in one? They aren’t that expensive and look much smarter. Mine is a combi above my standard built in oven. Some little microwave tucked away doesn’t seem a great decision to me.

In all honesty it’s the look that is my motivating factor. Trying to hide electronics as much as possible. Oven has to be visible but don’t really want a full block of tech (we previously had stacked built in microwave and oven). But don’t like faff so will keep thinking what might be best. Really appreciate people’s thoughts- really is the reason Mumsnet is so handy.

@ChillinwiththeVillains are you having a Quooker tap?

Ours goes in tomorrow and I'm as excited about this as anything else lol

Like you, wanting to keeping surfaces clear was why we decided to have one.

I'm another regular microwave in cupboard person. You just need to ensure you have the gaps around it for safety.

I have the pax pull out drawer in my wardrobe, its brilliant.

Yes quooker too. And false bottoms to upper cupboards to hide power points underneath. So if we get out an appliance we can plug it in but plugs won’t show. Also hoping to have plinth drawers to hide even more stuff away. Charging cupboard for tech. In theory just the fruit bowl and water jug will be left out. Cannot wait!

We're not having wall cupboards but that would have been a great idea. I've reduced the wall sockets and had some put in the pantries to hide more stuff

Don't forget the obligatory case of flowers 😆

Is anyone thinking of Derry girls hereGrin

My microwave has fittings on top you can suspend it if you need too off a shelf but it should be fine plonked on a shelf with ventilation I hate appliances being out on display too and they get dusty so I have to clean them 😭

This was an integrated fridge cupboard. It now has drawers and the microwave. Bog standard microwave.

Big Derry Girls fans here bur menopausal memory of a gnat so assume it's bad and I am channelling Jenny's mum or something but sadly we aren't loaded dentists. But will have nice clean uncluttered space I really hope.

No vase! I actually give away all flowers that I am ever given. Have standing arrangements with several elderly neighbours to leave on their doorsteps- in laws and some friends' default gift is flowers. I find it terribly sad watching as they decay slowly, so pre empt by getting rid.
Maybe a pot plant high up if it can survive utter neglect. Or big one in a nice pot to try to disguise massive dog bed and massive dog.

That is useful to see and it looks perfectly happy there!!

Yes cleaning is a pet hate. Plan is that everything is hidden away and non smudge marking painted cupboards should look neater and less like we are household on edge of chaos. Then can try to clean out one cupboard a month or something to stay ahead of disaster.
