Can anyone suggest really good quality carpet brand for heavy duty areas

I won't say we keep a herd of elephants in the lounge but sometimes it seems that way so have always bought Brintons Bell Twist for heavy duty areas which is a plain wool twist carpet, pricey but very durable and easy to clean. Decided to buy something a bit cheaper when we moved to a new place 6 years ago and got one which was almost the same spec as Bell Twist but has worn so badly that it looks like a rag. So decided to replace with a new Brintons bell Twist in mid blue or green. Ha! They have almost no blues and greens and what they do have is either timid or dark. Much as we love Bell Twist we can't buy it. So I am wondering please if someone could recommend a range of long wearing plain carpet with some appealing colours? thanks....

Not plain but Brintons Axminster type patterned carpets are bomb proof. Last much longer than the twist and some fabulous colabs and designs

Adam carpets are very similar to Brintons - we sell them at work. Also Westex Ultima twist range comes in 5 different grades giving some good price options.

If you can source it, Kingsmead do a range of 80/20 as well - we sell a lot from the Vitronics plain range.

I’m also looking for a very heavy duty carpet, but have shied away from wool blends as I’d been led to believe they’re very difficult to clean (we have three cats who occasionally puke in the house and always in the middle of the room). For many years I’ve had synthetic carpet which is bleachable, however, even though it’s described as very hard wearing, I find it starts to look flat in high traffic areas after just a year or so.
How do you clean a wool blend carpet, obviously bleach would be a massive no no?

I’ve checked the Brintons website and the one you mentioned is expensive, however it might be worth spending more per square metre if it stays looking new for longer….i’m just concerned about cleaning any cat vomit accidents.

You can have a stain treatment applied when you buy, they charge per m2. This can help with wool carpets.

Polyprop carpets can be great for busy households as you clean with anything including bleach but the pile does wear in high tread areas.

We generally use a carpet spot remover to get rid of stains, the cheaper carpet did stain in the end but the Brinton one never did. If only they could get some more interesting colours.

Have a look at Penthouse Carpets and Cormar Carpets. They have some really nice 80/20 wool carpets. Penthouse have a better range of colours in their Pentwist range but overall they're really good for the money

Use the highest quality underfelt makes a carpet much better.

With the Brintons wool axminster type,do not worry about cat /dog/vomit /poop. Mine has been down 15yrs with animals of all ages and cleans up brilliantly. I do occasionally have it cleaned by a professional and he says it is the best carpet out there for longevity

Do you not like the Timorus beasties or laura ashley designs? I have the malmaison linen in my bedroom and it is a stunning carpet, and in the hall the plaids look great. I know you want plain, but if you pick the right pattern they aren’t tying at all.
