Croxley Green or Ruislip

Moving from west London and can't make my mind up between these two areas. DD will start school next year so need to make a move before end of year really. Anyone in any of these areas that could share their view of the quality of life is for a young family there?

I grew up in Ruislip and moved to Rickmansworth. Go for Croxley green it is a lovely village. Ruislip is not what it used to be, it has no village feel, all the shops and banks in high street are closing downs. Everyone in Rickmansworth is so friendly, the schools are small so they know who you are, I would never go back to Ruislip. X

Thanks! How would you say Rickmansworth differ from Croxley, and what made you choose Rickmansworth?

Ruislip is quite nice now. Lots of little cafes and interesting shops. Not sure what pp is on about. I like it.

Geneticsbunny · 28/07/2024 18:24

Probably best to go and look around for a day as obviously different people think different things.

The high street has multiple closed shops, the only bank still there is Santander? It is not nice at all. Go to the Asda/cineworld and you will see how bad it is.
I literally moved away from there last year, I would never send my children to school there:
The only nice part is north Ruislip, but that is prone to burglaries.
We chose Rickmansworth because we just had a better feel for it than Croxley, but I love Croxley green too, it just suited us better to move to Rickmansworth xx

I always find people who leave an area are the worst at trashing it and have no regard for those still living there. Compared to most London towns, Ruislip is a lovely place to live. Yes there are issues but nowhere near as other areas. OP is asking for a choice so yes, recommend you find the other better, fine, but to totally trash Ruislip because of your personal experience is ridiculous and downright snobby. Burglaries happen everywhere just so you know, and many children get a very good education around here. I've lived here for 7 years and the people are lovely. And no I'm not in the 'better' north half, but in the manor part where the rest of us plebs are apparently.

Why are you taking it so personally it's weird.
I lived there for 21 years and I still have family there so I think I am well within my rights to say what I think of the area.
It is a question so I answered it. I do not need to have regard for you, I do not know you and quite frankly couldn't care less where you live.
I was speaking in overview about Ruislip, and yes, it has gone completely downhill.

I take it personally because you are trashing the whole place and giving OP a very untruthful account as if it is some kind of ghetto when in fact it is still one of the most desirable areas to live in west London with great schools and green space. An opinion is 'I prefer Rickmansworth because of this and this' but you also took the time to totally rubbish the whole area and everyone in it saying you would never send your child to school there. It's an appalling thing to say and totally untrue.

I am not trashing people am I? I am saying the area isn't nice anymore, which it isn't. I haven't said you are trash as you live the area, so get a grip please.

You say 'I'm not trashing people' and then say the area isn't as nice. Don't the people make the area? What is this about? Increased immigration?

2littleonesx · 12/09/2024 21:24

Oh here we go, please don't push your agenda on me. Going from a comment about an area to now pushing immigration.
You are bitter and this has touched a nerve, very, very strange.
Everything goes back to race and immigration, even when the topic is completely unrelated and I'm not falling for it.
You are wanting a row today it seems, to take a topic of an area and turn it into a poor me act is absolutely bizzare.

angstridden2 · 13/09/2024 08:19

Can’t believe that people can start an argument over where to live in MN. For what it’s worth, Ruislip still has an okay high street, although retail struggling like most other places. Out of touch on schools. Croxley Green/Ricky really nice still although I wouldn’t say Croxley really has a shopping centre. Most Schools in this bit of Herts really good if you can get places which sadly doesn’t always happen.

Housebaby · 15/09/2024 09:09

I'm afraid I have to agree with most of what @2littleonesx says about Ruislip, it HAS gone downhill and I say that as someone who's lived there my whole life (more than 50 years!), it saddens me and for that reason we are looking to move away in the next few years, before it gets worse (have posted on here about it). Judging by the people I know and local social media, I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

Having said that, Ruislip is still a decent area that has a lot going for it, there are far worse London suburbs. It also has some very good schools (and my kids did go to school there, as did I!). I don't know much about Croxley, particularly the schools but it looks nice enough, but wouldn't describe it as a village, any more than I would Ruislip.

Take your time OP and do your research which you are doing. You asked for opinions and you're getting them 🙂

Danini · 18/09/2024 09:55

Thanks everyone 🙂

I moved to Ruislip in 2017 and it’s miles ahead of Croxley Green there isn’t even a comparison.

This is Ruislip high street:

(note that white building is now going to be a Gail’s)

This is Croxley Green:

I mean what are people above even talking about.
