Tile alignment in bathroom

For a bathroom which is slightly under the eaves (so triangular at the top of two walls) with a long horizontal rectangular window.

We are having an approx 9x37cm tile on the walls and we had planned to tile the entire walls. I originally thought I wanted it vertical stacked but now am wondering if it would look silly with the wall and window shapes?

What do you think? I would still want it stacked I think even if horizontal. Or is there some reason that staggered would work better?

Picture showing end wall and window. The floor is going to be large square tiles.

I like vertical tiles but my personal opinion is it will get too busy above the window. I would just leave that bit bare and paint in the same colour as the tiles (rather than ceiling). You could possibly put some "art" pieces up there?

On 3 walls including that wall it will be a very pale dove grey (colour is called white by tile manufacturer but it's not a bright clean white) - can that look busy? With a mid grey grout. I don't think I can bear to go back on the full wall tile.

Ugh we have spent so long thinking about the tiles in this bathroom and the tiler keeps grimacing about the design (although I'm not trying to please his tastes and he might just be thinking about how easy it is to install).

I am wracked with indecision and it has to start going on soon.

I'd sketch out the different options and see which looks best. But in your scenario I think I'd just tile up to the bottom of the window and then paint above.

Not brilliantly drawn and I kind of did the tiles a lot wider on the horizontal but...

Part of the reason we decided to tile the whole walls was we didn't want any more major 'lines' in the space since it already has quite a few. That was what we were advised anyway.

My heart still wants the vertical I think so I might just try to stop second guessing myself.

This is a better picture (they've now started with the floor).

When It comes to decorating your home always go with your heart.

I think both designs look nice, but I prefer the vertical. If you have nice quality tiles and a good tiler I'm sure it'll look fab regardless of whether/how it's stacked though especially if the tiles are all the same colour and you're going with a light grout

Tiler is grimacing about your design because stacked tiles are more difficult to install, and install well, than brick layout tiles! But tough luck on him. Make sure he aligns the centre tile(s) with the ceiling apex too.

FWIW, the horizontal mock up seems to read more MCM with the horizontal tile/ horizontal window. Vertical reads more modern.

Either design is great, go with what you like best.

I think horizontal works better as the horizontal length complements the horizontal lines of the window, bath and sink unit. Adding vertical lines creates a clash and makes the space busy.

That's just my personal thoughts though! Please go with what your heart tells you!
