Strange house - ransacked and graves!

Currently looking at houses in this area and have come across this place. Why do you think it's so messy? Is this just delapidation or has it been maybe burgled? I don't think I can live with graves in the garden. Seems very spooky but was probably a very nice house at some point. Very old.

Looks like a massive money pit. Couldn't see the graves but I wouldn't mind having them there, would have terrified me as a child though, I wouldn't even walk past a cemetery 🤣

TheBunyip · 23/07/2024 23:54

What a find! Looks like “urban explorer” types have got in and ransacked it which is sad.

grade ii* though. That’s going to cost you and take forever.

tobee · 23/07/2024 23:56

One of those rooms looks like my son's bedroom.

The creepiest thing is that staircase bizarrely

purpleme12 · 24/07/2024 00:08

'a health and safety disclaimer will be required to be completed before accessing the property '

Bloody hell

cloudsss · 24/07/2024 00:08
  • Filled With Period Features and a load of crap

I don’t envy the photographer having to pick their way through all of that stuff.

TheRiddle · 24/07/2024 00:13

You think whoever was selling it would have gotten it cleared out first?

Amazing history, absolutely love old houses and imaging who lived in them and what their lives where like.

Shame about the road which seems to go right past it very close. Probably wasn't there when the house was built. The owner must have been cheesed off when a road got built right outside.

I'd love to see it renovated as well but looks like it would cost a fortune and take years.

AtrociousCircumstance · 24/07/2024 00:22

Amazing <shudder> What atmosphere. It looks like a house where a dusty 1970s tv horror special by Nigel Kneale could have been filmed.

unsync · 24/07/2024 00:22

IIRC, the last owner was a recluse and a bit odd. The house itself has been in a bit of a state for quite a number of years. It is right on the main road and very close to the A12, so the road noise is horrendous. The land across the road from it has also just been cleared, so not sure what's going on there either, probably more development. Unless you can get it for peanuts, there's much better property around for what you need to spend on this. Just be mindful of the new pylon route though, as it will be coming right through here.

SisterAgatha · 24/07/2024 00:24

You could not pay me to live there. Comes with free Dorian Gray in the attic.

The graves are the least of its worries.

Andylion · 24/07/2024 00:25

I can’t see the coffin or the graves?

Ourdearoldqueen · 24/07/2024 00:27

Lend me to myself to peer into my grave,
I see an eye wink and the wing feathers of a dove,
Ten tall lovers bending to whip and save.
I dig myself in deeper, with nothing, everything to prove.

Ourdearoldqueen · 24/07/2024 00:28

The wall paintings alone are MAGNIFICENT.

BreadInCaptivity · 24/07/2024 00:32

It's wonderful.

Someone will snap this up.

But renovations will cost a fortune - more than the list price I would suggest having done quite a few in my time especially given the grade 2 star listing.

But the original features are magnificent.

The big problem is the upstairs layout. Downstairs is great.

5 bedrooms is technically right but only one upstairs bathroom and a pass through access to other bedrooms.

You'd want to change the upstairs layout and access the loft plus more bathrooms.

The value will very much depend on how much leeway you would get from planning to make the upper floors work - otherwise it's a very expensive 3 bedroom one bathroom property.

Smidgers · 24/07/2024 00:32

That house would be beautiful and has a lot of gorgeous features. I don’t see anything creepy about it, it’s clearly been a once loved family home. What a shame it’s fallen into disrepair.

AvrielFinch · 24/07/2024 00:51

Could be a gorgeous home. I could afford to buy it, but not to pay for the substantial renovation costs.

Chaoseverywhere · 24/07/2024 00:52

If I win the premium bonds this month I’m going to buy this house. I’m absolutely dreaming of this now.
sadly it has been broken into and ransacked so vandals around

Sorry, it's picture 27.

What’s my house doing on Mumsnet ??

Seriously though, it looks to me like a hoarder has lived there rather than the house has been burgled/ransacked.

It would be a brave person to take that house on as would be a beautiful money pit.

dollopz · 24/07/2024 05:58

It’s just the house of someone who hoards stuff, so possibly someone who has had significant emotional loss or someone who finds managing a household overwhelming. Personally it wouldn’t put me off a house, as long as I had the energy or money to empty it. The condition of the house should be reflected in the price. The graves also wouldn’t put me off, it’s likely just someone who loved their house.

OneForTheToad · 24/07/2024 06:55

If the pictures don’t put you off, then street view should. Horrendous location. Terrible condition externally.
I suppose it might be viable if you could put up a house in the garden, but the plot doesn’t look big enough anyway.

Oceangreyscale · 24/07/2024 07:06

That's amazing. I hope whoever buys it keeps the paintings on the walls, I don't know if they would be covered by the listing (probably not).

Shame about the road noise, that would both me a lot more than the graves.

FiveShelties · 24/07/2024 07:07

I cannot imagine how much it will cost to renovate that, the Grade II listing will add hundreds of thousands of pounds to the work.

It looks really sad.

BoobyDazzler · 24/07/2024 07:16

Doesn’t give me the creeps either. I’d so enjoy bringing it back to life and sorting out all the stuff! Tbh id even quite like having graves and I adore all those murals.

It’s a spectacular house 😍

OldTinHat · 24/07/2024 07:17

Woweeeee! That is absolutely gorgeous!

Couple of odd things in the photos though - a very new looking electric heater in pic 11 and the loft photo has a very new looking light bulb.
