Moving from house to flat

Wondering if anyone has moved from a house to a flat and liked it, please?

I currently rent a 2 bed terraced house in a not great area, I’m wanting to move to a nicer area but it’s more expensive. There’s a really nice 2 bed flat on rightmove in my budget, it’s got 2 bathrooms which would be amazing and it’s got a field at the back which would be much more freedom/space for my children to (supervised of course) play than we have in our current small garden BUT it’s on the second floor.

I have really noisy children (7 and 8 so no worries about pushchairs) and I’m quite loud 😂 really don’t want to make enemies of the neighbours.

Has anyone done this and felt like it was the right decision? I lived in a ground floor flat when they were babies and toddlers but we’ve been in a house since. Thank you xx

I did, moved from a 2 bed terrace to a 2 bed flat. I much prefer being on one level and we have about 50% more space. House was about 750 square feet and the flat is nearly 1200. We have a small courtyard and a roof terrace. We had a more garden with the house but only really used the patio area.
However, second floor with children is not ideal for you or your downstairs neighbours. My upstairs neighbours are a retired couple with no children and they are very considerate but we can still hear them at times and when their grandchildren are over it’s very noisy.
Don’t be put off by a flat but I think ground floor would be a much better option.

This is probably not what you want to hear but my mum moved from a house to a 2 bed flat post divorce when my sister and I were about 11-13. It was also on the second floor and due to poor sound insulation, she did get complaints from the downstairs neighbour about us making a noise. We weren’t even particularly noisy children as a few years older than yours at the time.

So if you’re buying a flat, check insulation if you can. Or be prepared for a certain amount of disapproval from the neighbours unless you buy a ground floor flat.

If it has proper floors, so solid concrete, and carpets, then should be ok. If it has wooden floors, then no.
