How important is location to you?

I know, I know, I know, Location Location, Location. But when we first bought we couldn't afford a nice location. We have spent 10 happy years in our house, we have spent a fair bit doing it up, and if I do say so myself, it is now a beautiful house. We haven't been able to move in the past due to my husband's payment structure (he's mainly on a bonus: we have cash but not eligible for a higher mortgage.) . It is for this reason, that we have previously spent a lot of money making the house as nice as possible. However, the location hasn't improved at all and if anything it's got worse. There are good schools nearby and the transport is excellent. We've never had any issues with crime personally, but the surrounding area is dirty and druggy. We are now in a position to move to a bigger house further out towards the countryside, but I'm worried noone will want to buy our house. Would you settle on a not great location for a beautiful house?

Someone will buy it for the right price, but you have to take into account, regardless of what you have spent on it, that the location will impact its sale value and it might not reach as much as you might like

The price will need to reflect the location.
"Dirty and druggy" would be an absolute no from me. But someone trying to get on the ladder might consider it for the right price.

You will sell it and probably very easily!

location is everything. which is why i'm stuck in a terraced house with a tiny garden. the big houses in a nice location are financially out of reach but I can't bring myself to compromise on location so we stay here, where it's clean, the neighbours are all lovely, and there is a great sense of community.

This.
Why did you pump so much money into a house in a poor location? You must have realised there'd be a ceiling price, no matter how much you invested.

Because we’ve loved living in it and have had many happy years as a result of what we’ve done.
