Do newbuilt houses these days really have to have self-closing doors due to fire regs?

Isn't that a bit crazy? Surely it must be possible to leave the door open in your own house? Esp. with children - need to leave door open when I'm in the kitchen and toddler playing in the living room?

no they dont

self closing doors depend on the number of floors and the exact floor plan re kitchens

unless they have changed things recently

my brothers new house has these.. they have got door stops on them all.. so that makes them useless

We had to have them in our Victorian house when we converted the loft.
(and we have doorstops on them

So I think it is indeed a 3 story thing.

we dont have them and my house is 2 years old
