Two bathrooms renovation: what would you do?

We're completely renovating the two bathrooms in our new flat. They are opposite each other across a hall, each roughly 3.7m long but 1.2m wide. At present one has a bath and the other a walk-in shower. We can't for various reasons expand them. Internal, so no windows.
As everything needs to go, I've been trying to work out the best configuration and have been to a bathroom design company for ideas. But so far I can't solve the basic problem: the toilets. No matter how they're arranged, it means sitting on the loo about 1/3m away from the wall, staring at it.
I hate this! I work from home and I am a middle aged woman - I'm in there a lot, day and night. It feels so cramped and unpleasant. My husband and young son don't notice, as they're standing up to pee most of the time.
I was thinking, what if one bathroom had a bath with shower above and the other was just a spacious cloakroom with toilet and sink? Would that be weird, having a cloakroom when it's the same size as the other bathroom? I can't quite picture the layout - toilet at far end of the rectangle and sink/vanity along the wall? Is it daft not to have a proper shower,? My previous flat had just a shower over bath and it was absolutely fine.
We do often need the loo at the same time but rarely would all want to wash at the same time. And virtually never have overnight guests.

Could you put a mirror opposite - to give the allusion of more space?
I don't personally like a shower over a bath.

If you are the only person with the problem with the toilets then I would just change one of the bathrooms to accommodate that. Is that possible?

I would keep the walk in shower - it’s much easier as you age. Do you really need a tub? Can the sink area in one bathroom be made smaller? Those are the kinds of things I would be looking at.

2 full bathrooms would be better for resale so I’d try and keep that.

can you post floorplans? Someone may have a clever idea

Could you fit the toilet in a corner, like this?

Can one be a wet room??

PrincessOfPreschool · 20/07/2024 04:59

Yes, I think I would struggle with that. How many bedrooms is it? I think if it's 2 bed, then 1.5 bathrooms is plenty. How about a cloakroom with utility then you can get rid of washing machine in there or have a laundry drying space in there.

Or

Smaller shower cubicle?
Get rid of bath completely?

A wet room is a good idea- and yes to the bath with shower over but you could then have that as a second shower room with just a curtain around so it's open most of the time- would that help?

Have a look at caravans, campervans and even cruise ships. You can get toilets and sinks and even showers that fold or are put in a cupboard.

Some you sit on the toilet (lid down) to use the shower. If you did that you would have a cloak room but with an option of a shower.

Can you post a rough hand drawn layout? Would it be possible to move one of the doors?
