Which area of Manchester?

My dd and her husband are looking to buy in Manchester-currently they rent in the city centre. It’s been many, many years since I lived in Manc (Monton) and the areas I would’ve recommended are way out of their budget. Their budget is 250k and they’re looking for a 2 bed house. My dd is in the office 3 days a week near Warrington and her dh is in the centre twice a week-otherwise they wfh. I thought maybe Salford, Eccles, Stockport but they’re thinking Withington due to proximity to Didsbury-is that on ok area? Any other areas to consider with decent transport links for couple in mid twenties? Not too rough?

Filter Rightmove for Stockport Station and take a look around there. How does she get to Warrington? Is it doable by train? If she can get to work by train, I'd just look around stations on the Manchester to Warrington line.

This needs abit of love and work but it’s close to Didsbury as well

So am having a look at Stockport-seems more affordable yet good transport area. Any areas to avoid? There is a house in Reddish which looks great. She’s looked at areas like Eccles and Newton Le Willows but would rather be close to Manchester.

Levenshulme may fit the bill. It’s rough round the edges but there’s some things to do locally, the transport links are great, and they could get a really nice two bedroom terrace with their budget.

Prestwich is great and has a good community feel. House prices are reasonable.

If they like going into the city centre, then I suggest they look at areas within walking distance of a Tram stop, generally more reliable/ quicker than trains or buses.

Manchester itself is a big city with decent housing all around it, so it’s pretty hard for other people to suggest areas for them to look at, parts of an area like Withington are fine but others are a bit run down or full of student houses. I know the area well having lived here most of my life so could give advice if you ask for a specific house. A house can look brilliant on Rightmove, in a “good area” like one of The Heatons in Stockport yet be in a less than ideal spot, near an industrial estate, park plagued by rowdy teenagers, main road with commuter traffic, long walk to public transport links, plane noise etc etc.

My daughter prefers living NE of the city, she gets more for her money but then she works from home and has a car so does not rely on public transport. She’s just bought a lovely 3 bed detached with garden and drive for £245,000.

@Ihateslugs that would be great-will pm you when they have found something! I have heard Stockport will be a good area as there is development there-I think The Heatons are out of budget if they want a house. Offerton looks reasonable and near the mainline station. They have viewed a house in Withington and are considering it but it’s further than they wanted for public transport on a modern development.
