Buying a house - structural movement next door

We've found a fantastic house in a good school catchment and want to move before Oct to get DC into Y7/secondary schools in the new area.

We've just found out that the house next door had some issues with structural movement. Our level 3 survey said there was no evidence that this was affecting the house we’re buying and our builder said the same, but naturally we're still worried. We are buying with a bridging loan to renovate and need to be able to switch to a residential
mortgage quickly when that's done.

We have found documents next door filed with the council to fix the issue they were having with this. The issue was caused by a tree in their garden and it didn’t affect their main building - just an extension and exterior walls.

Will this issue next door affect the house we're trying to buy? What would you do in this situation?

Presumably the tree no longer exists?

That's right. The tree was removed earlier this year.

I can't imagine that it would affect your house in any way of it was a tree in the garden.

If it were a party wall or shared structure it might be worth having a copy of the documents when it comes to selling again.

It sounds like the issue is resolved as the tree has been removed and the issue is isolated to that.

I think if both surveyor and builder said no issue and you’re still not comfortable and asking randoms on mumsnet it is best to pull out as thr anxiety will be too much.

😂 I mean... that is a fair point!

I was hoping to understand is anyone had experience of an issue next door impacting their own house's mortgage-ability and insurance premiums.

But yes, I am a very anxious person!
