Lamp on button vibrating after changing plug

I bought a table lamp from Denmark, with an EU plug (two rounded prongs). It worked perfectly when I plugged it in using an EU-UK adaptor.

(I know there's no such thing as an EU plug, but for the purposes of this message, it makes it a lot easier if we pretend there is!)

I replaced the EU plug with a UK plug with a 3 amp fuse, as I thought this is what you should do for safe long term use. There was no earth wire (ie no green and yellow wire), just neutral and live (blue and brown wires).

I checked that the lamp had the two square symbol confirming it was double insulated, which, as I understand it, means no earth wire required, so I went ahead and wired the plug. The lamp works, but the on button now vibrates under your finger when you turn it on or off - it feels live. It did not do this before replacing the plug.

There was no obvious problem with the wiring I had done. I cut the cable again and rewired the plug very carefully, making sure the blue wire went to the left and the brown wire to the terminal beside the fuse, the fuse was 3 amp and secure, there were no little pieces of wire sticking out etc. The on button still vibrates.

I left the earth prong in, even though there's no earth wire attached. I notice the earth prong is loose - it rattles a bit. Is this a problem even though there's no earth wire? What else could it be? How do I fix it? Or do I need to buy another one and just use a converter instead of changing the plug?

(I can't just buy a UK lamp - it took forever to find one small enough and right for this particular corner for someone with light sensitivity. So this is the lamp - I just need to know how to make it safe.)

Maybe @pigletjohn could help? (Have I tagged him correctly? If not, could someone tag him and tell me how?) Or is there an electrician on here?

Is it a touch lamp, where you touch the button to switch it on and off, rather than "click" it on and off? https://www.universal-lighting.co.uk/products/endon-dara-touch-dimmer-table-lamp-usb-opal-glass-brushed-nickel/
If so, these lamps work by capacitance and do feel like they are vibrating when you touch them to operate them and is quite normal. If it is a proper on/off switch which is buzzing/vibrating then maybe there is a loose connection behind the switch, but I will let an electrician answer in order to validate the safety of your lamp.

Thanks for the reply. Here's the lamp:

It turns on when you just tap the tiny gold raised dot on the side of the marble base. So that sounds like it works as you say.

However, there was absolutely no vibration of the marble base or the dot when used with its own plug+adaptor. After changing the plug the first time (my husband actually did the first change), the whole marble base and the dot were vibrating - felt v v live. After we started again and rewired it together, and changed the fuse from 13 amp to 3 amp, the marble base did not vibrate (or only a little) but the dot still vibrates a lot. Totally different to before we lopped the plug off.

So if it had vibrated from the beginning I would be happy to go ahead with it. It's the fact that it didn't vibrate at all and now does that's unnerving!

I have other touch lamps but they are all battery operated. None vibrate, not even the all-metal lamp.

I see from the product description it will only work with "dimmable " G9 bulbs. Maybe this is causing the issue if your bulb you are using is not rated as dimmable?
Other than this, you have done everything correctly, so I would either approach the supplier for advice or have an electrician check it over.

Alas the bulb is dimmable, and the same dimmable bulb was in it before and after changing the plug.

I texted the electrician who said that once the new plug is connected correctly and no loose connections there's not much else that can be done.

Since I was considering buying a second one anyway, as it works so well in the room, I've gone ahead and ordered one. Then the next time an electrician is in the house, I'll get them to look at the one that we messed up by trying to do the right thing!

I suspect that the EU plug contained something that made it safer. It was a nice slim plug that will fit well into a converter, so I'll try that on the second lamp.

Thanks for your replies - much appreciated.
