2 Magpies arrived in garden 3 weeks ago.

EVERY morning at 5am till 7am they attack the windows and patio doors causing loud bangs.
Dogs bark...... dd awake...... lilymolly well and truly pissed off.
Have tried barracading windows, closing curtains, putting up massive picture of cat and yet still the biggers tap tap tap tap and fecking tap!!!!!!
Now last year the same happened with crows and dp shot them and peace was once again at lilymollys house.

BUT everyone tells me that the it is unlucky to kill a magpie, but I am at my wits end.

Please vote
Shoot or not
If not all sensible suggestions will be tried
Thanks x

Shoot.

Or put netting up outside french windows that they will get trapped in and then you can set the buggers free miles away?

I say shoot em...farking pests. we have a pair trying to nest in our holly tree every year (DH keeps destroying the nest) and they terrorise the cat and shite all over my clean washing as well as scaring all the little birds away from the feeders.

Last year, a pair of blackbirds set up home in the nest.....the maggies pulled the blackbird chicks out, ate some of them and left the rest lying at the bottom of the tree. It's the same pair as well as one of them has a damaged wing.

after a few goes at destroying the nest (obviously before they have laid eggs) they get fed up and go elsewhere.

leave them alone, we have lots here, they're only noisy because they're babies

lilymolly · 10/04/2008 22:05

they are not babies, they are full grown fecking things which are making our life a misery.

I have given them 3 weeks to pack their bags and get out of town, but they are really pushing me over the edge.

I AM NOT GOOD AT 5AM

Don't shoot! For God's sake spare them!! Why do people hate magpies so much. They are beautiful.

Agree the banging is annoying. Are they attacking their reflections? Let your windows get dirty so no reflection?

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 22:18

lol at they're bad luck, poor magpies

lilymolly · 10/04/2008 22:19

I dont hate magpies, far from it,but the banging is driving me insane......

yes they are prob attacking reflection but tried everything to stop them

"The only way to stop this behaviour is to remove the trigger ? the reflection. This means putting something such as cling film or non-reflective cellophane on the outside of the window."

Would that be possible do you think?

Fizzylemonade · 10/04/2008 22:22

SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT

We had this, back every year, then they had a baby and the baby joined in. They tormented my cat, one would lure my cat and the other would peck her tail, it was awful.

My cat got her own back when she caught the baby and SAT on it!!!! Laugh? I nearly wet my pants.

My cat took the moral high ground and let the bird go but when they came back another year my Mum got out the air rifle and shot at them.

They are classed as vermin and they are incredibly noisy. In summer it is worse as you usually have the windows open. It is disturbing your life, shoot the feckers.

girlfrommars · 10/04/2008 22:22

Please don't shoot them at the moment- their young will starve to death in the nest.

This might help.
