Report neighbours to landlord?

Had these neighbours since Dec 22, tick a lot of crap neighbours bingo card (noisy kids, yapping, howling dog, park where they like). Have tolerated their crap so far but when they let their 2/3 year old out in the garden to scream, shout and bang at 8.10 on a Sunday morning my tolerance level stopped, so I opened the door and shouted shut up. These people are renting the property privately. Is it worth contacting the landlord (I know who it is) or just not bother?

And you have just answered my problem, they won't be little forever and when they're older and outside my house booting a football about everywhere and racing up and down on dirt bikes, I'll probably still get the crap I'm getting on here because they're just children and I'm just a nasty old cow.🙄

Noisy neighbours can be a right pain in the arse and after one too many incidents it's no surprise you snapped.

First thing I'd do is contact the council and report the noise. They'll ask you to fill in a form for about 2 weeks detailing all of the incidents then send it back to them. If there's enough for them to go on, they may well write to the neighbours. The other option is they will come out and observe. An occasional bark of the dog or short spells of noise, they probably won't do a lot, but if the dogs are left to bark for long periods repeatedly, they may well act.

Secondly I'd have a word with the landlord. You don't have to make it official at this stage. Just give him the heads up that you are having problems and you'll be back in touch if it continues to take things further.

People can be incredibly thoughtless and inconsiderate. I hope you get things sorted. You might feel a bit better if you take some kind of action, like I've mentioned, and know that help is out there if you need it. Let us know how you get on.

Because people who buy houses are never nuisance neighbours are they

Sounds like you wimped out of knocking on their door and having a grown up conversation about the situation, and chose to shout at a 2 year old. Would you have shouted at the adults?

For what it's worth I wouldn't let my children out to make a racket at 8am on a Sunday. YNBU to be annoyed by it, but the way you dealt with it is unreasonable. And if you think a landlord can or would do anything about it, you'll have a long wait.

Yes how dare I shout at an innocent child who in about 13 years is going to be a totally out of control teen due to crap parenting.

If you don't understand the difference of what is acceptable behaviour towards a toddler and a teenager I suggest you engage in education. You really sound very disengaged on what is acceptable behaviour.

Urgh. The ‘I’m going to tell on them’ attitude the OP is giving off is telling of a horribly superior notion. Unpleasant.

I did say something, I told the child to shut up as his parents couldn't be bothered. I didn't say these children should be locked up inside all day, everyday. But is it too much to ask to keep their children inside on a Sunday morning until a reasonable time, as some people might like a lie in? Or is it a case of we're up so sod us?

You told a toddler to shut up?! Get a grip.

Maybe sell and move into an old people's home?

You will get more annoyed and bitter over time and while surely your hearing will deteriorate rapidly and you can just turn off your hearing aid, a solution where you lock yourself away from life might be the best.

Good luck!

No they wont be little forever so be careful of making enemies of them now which can lead to them harrassing you when they're teens. Karma.
