I've never sold a house. Do sellers pay to show more photos? What a lot of pointless ones in this listing

We didn't. The photographer took loads that were silly, but they weren't included on the ads.

Flubadubba · 06/07/2024 18:19

Not that I have ever come across. Then again, I have never paid for agent photos and that seems to be a thing in some places too.

SeLHopeful2024 · 06/07/2024 20:08

I'm finding pictures like this so annoying.
At least there's a lot.
I've been looking at some adverts where there are all like that and you can't see a room!

TiredCatLady · 06/07/2024 20:19

Urgh, any listing with photos like that, I get the suspicion is concealing/distracting from some bigger flaws. In that case no room sizes on the floor plans and in the description they’re actually pretty small but look at the property sale history. Last sold in 2023 for £76k and now marketed at £145k. That’s a bit of a jump even if it has been fully renovated.

I think it's partly to do with the estate agent, some seem more likely to include pointless 'lifestyle' photos

Thepartnersdesk · 06/07/2024 20:41

I can cope with the ones that show things that are at least included in sale like taps and fitted kitchen appliances.

The dinner plates less so. To be fair I think the photographer has done quite well with a fairly empty Scottish special with a bland back garden.

The danger with the wide angle shots is that they are too good and the reality is a disappointment.

Linnet · 06/07/2024 20:44

I agree with the dislike of arty photos of taps and door handles etc.

But the house is nice and it looks like it’s been refurbished well. Looking at the photos from the previous listing it was in need of a total overhaul when bought last year, which would have been reflected in the price it sold for. They’ve also changed it from a two bedroomed house to a three bedroomed house, which possibly contributes to the increase in value now.

FeatherBoas · 06/07/2024 20:50

In the past photographs were expensive, so very few, now they are cheap so fill your boots.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/07/2024 20:51

I suspect that if they didn't do this their only other option is to take 'selfes'

So they are really trying to push the boundaries and become professional photographer (after all, it can't be that difficult).

I’ve never paid for photos to the EA selling our house. Just pick a good EA that you can see from their other listings writes good blurb and shows a decent amount of quality photos.

PauliesWalnuts · 07/07/2024 10:32

I’ve just put mine on the market. Three out of four estate agents who valued the house offered either standard photos taken by themselves or a premium offer by a professional photographer for £200 extra. I went for the one who didn’t offer this for different reasons but wish they had done, as they sent a kid round with an iPhone and the photos were shit.

That’s awful and won’t help sell your house in a difficult market. Have you tried asking the EA if you can pay the £200 to get new photos done?

That's crazy! We moved last year and all agents included professional photos as standard. Same when we moved in 2018. (Both sales in different parts of London)

PauliesWalnuts · 07/07/2024 13:07

So disappointing. It’s been on a month and no floor plan either yet cause “it takes ages to render”. They don’t have an agreement with a photographer and don’t really understand what the problem is. It’s been on Right Move since 10 June and there’s not been a sniff of interest. I’m away in a week so I’m leaving it to the end of July and then reconsidering. It was neck and neck with another agent and I only picked them because two neighbours gave them good references.

Userxyd · 14/07/2024 06:39

I get so annoyed with the pointless pictures of flowers, furniture etc. As if we'd be swayed by stuff that's I'm not even part of the sale! This isn't too bad but some have 40+ photos and I just move on without looking at everything so their loss! Really bad to waste buyers time on irrelevant crap - doesn't bode well for an efficient sale imo.

Kitkat1523 · 14/07/2024 07:32

My Mum went with an estate agent who offered standard photos as part of the package…..or for an extra 70 quid an experienced photographer….she took the latter option and the photos were great…made the rooms look huge, much lighter and airier …..well worth the money…..house had a firm offer in 10 days

Purplepepsi · 14/07/2024 08:26

Our estate agent has a trained photographer on their staff which was great. He had a good eye for detail in the pictures (no loo seats up etc) and the house looks amazing. We've been so lucky with them, they have worked really hard for us.
