I’ve been to DIY Kitchens today. We’re in Sheffield for the weekend visiting from Stoke and decided to have a look!
Just wow!
If you can go and see this amazing showroom just go. So much inspiration, no pushy Wren salesmen and a free brew if you want it - fab!

When we finally move (you know the history from the buyer/seller thread haha) we will be doing to have a look for sure!

One of the youtube renovators we watch had a DIY kitchens kitchen and it looked really good quality and we have watched a few reviews on youtube. Glad theres a positive review on here for it.

Our diy kitchens kitchen is 6 years old now & still looks brand new. It was a great way to get a really high spec kitchen at a much cheaper cost.

I have ordered two kitchens form there, whilst they came good in the end my experience is not the glowing reviews that DIY always seem to get on here. For a start both times I have had damaged/broken units sent, chipped doors and parts missing, then had to wait for them to send replacements which delayed fitting. Secondly their delivery system is crap. They say your kitchen will delivered week commencing xxxx and we will let you know your slot, had to take a full week off work and wait for them to text/ring us. This never came and they just turned up on the last possible day - Sunday evening complete waste of a week. Put me right off them to be honest.

I’ve used DIYK in the past and been happy with them, but, also wanted to flag. I’m doing work to our house so looking to buy again and - I’m starting to see the same reviews, using the same wording on several ‘pro’ diyk sites at the moment (here and Facebook). I suspect their marketing team do a great job.

The advantages of DIYk: clear pricing structure, high end quality products, relatively easy install (cabinets are premade but be aware the void spaces are smaller than some other high street brands so when planning this may need to be considered - it was a plus for us in a slightly smaller kitchen space!).
Cons - delivery process is tricky (and seems to have gotten harder from others reviews) with limited notice and notification, if items are damaged (esp in transit) or need replacing the process is fairly time consuming and involves waiting for redelivery. Self design (though they’ll match other high street places plans).

For ours, price wise when pricing at the moment they compare to the likes of howdens (solid wood ranges). Personally, id have loved to have been able to finish our build with the kitchen Magnet designed (preferred style) but can’t justify the DIYk difference.

BUT the buying process has been much more frustrating than previously : eg. Have paid for several sample doors that are not delivered (sent colour swatches instead but tiny pieces not helpful in choosing a range or seeing quality). Presuming as they grow, demand is putting them under pressure. But my advice would be that using DIYK takes a lot more time than other suppliers - for all parts of the process (design, getting samples, ordering - basket can take a few days to be checked, turnaround on bespoke paint can be longish, checking - advice is at minimum two weeks delivery before fitting so you need storage etc.)

Kitchens are a scam business. Howdens, Wren, Magnet, are all scammers. They grossly overprice their products, then give you a big “discount” which still doesn’t match DIY or IKEA. Here’s a hint: if it’s a melamine faced chipboard (MFC) carcass then DIY or IKEA is absolutely your best choice. I love DIY, I’ve used them 4-5 times (my own kitchen, several friends and my parents). Easy to install and just as good as the other big names cause they’re all the same damn thing. If your kitchen isn’t made from solid oak boards, then the price from DIY is what you should be paying. All the other places advertise they’ll “match any quote” but they never match DIY. Try it out.

I bought a kitchen with solid doors.
The kitchen is lovely (got worktop and everything else separately).
But the ordering etc is a pain if you don't know what you are doing. But if I ever need a kitchen again I would use them and I have learnt what I need to do re ordering by going through the process.

Please unpack and check everything if you can, I couldn't and there were missing/wrong items when the fitter came to fit and this delayed everything as sometime we had to wait I've a week for the replacement items to arrive.

The whole thing was a nightmare, but I think it always is, and the kitchen and units were very good quality for the price.

Intrigued to see a previous poster list "self design" as a con rather than a pro. I was surprised when someone mentioned on this board a few months back that they couldn't just get a list of available units from the other big-name kitchen places, forcing you to have their "design" services. To me, not being able to design your own layout is a massive issue and I wouldn't use any of these companies that just chucked a design together based on a few minutes conversation with me. No-one knows how I use my kitchen and what I want better than I do, and I'm perfectly capable of measuring a room and reading dimensions of units. The one time I had a kitchen "designed" by Magnet, it didn't fit properly or work with the services and the kitchen fitters had to make numerous unexpected changes to compensate for Magnet design errors. The transparency of being able to pick from a clear list of units and design around my own needs is a massive factor in why I intend to use DIY kitchens for my next kitchen. (Plus I know people who have used them and their kitchens are lovely)
