Constant feeling of unease in our decisions!

Is it normal to constantly question whether you’re doing the right thing throughout the buying and selling process?

We currently live in a terraced in a decent enough area. It’s our first house and has been a labour of love over the past 7 years as we’ve completed renovated it from top to bottom. We’ve married and had two babies in that time too so there is a lot of memories linked to this house.

That said, we’re starting to feel the pinch living here with two kids. My youngest is 8 months and in the box room, there’s no room to keep toys in there as she gets older. Also, we don’t have the best neighbours!

We’re buying a detached in a semi rural area but once again, it’s a complete renovation project for us.

Im constantly questioning myself, swinging from excitement to oh my god what are we doing.

We’ve never moved before so I would be grateful to hear your experience and what emotions were involved!

Yes, I'd say it's normal. I'm a bit of a ditherer anyway though.

From the outside it sounds like you're doing EXACTLY the right thing! So excited for you!

@DoingJustFine Thank you! Honestly at times I feel like I’m going mad 🙈

It sounds like you’re ready to buy a bigger house & that makes sense. Personally I wouid be scared of a renovation project but you’ve already done it once so know you can do it. I expect it will be tough at times - like your current house probably was at times during the renovation process - but afterwards you will have a lovely property that is long term suitable for your family.

I loved a new (old) house that while it wasn't a doer-upper, had so much scope that I could plan, design and dream the improvements & changes I wanted to make. Implementing these changes was almost always expensive and hard work but heavens, it was worth it.🙂

It's massive upheaval, huge expenses , you'd be mad if you didn't have qualms !

A project might be a bit much with 2 young kids , though you know your family and you have done it before

I think it must be. I certainly keep panicking that we've picked the wrong house or are unhappy or something goes wrong. Then the next day I'm excited about planning my new kitchen!

It's a huge life choice. And you are trying to make the right decision for your children.

nurseryconfusion · 05/07/2024 20:54

I am a very decisive person, but moving away from the house your children came home to is tough!

We have made the move now and it's brilliant, so good to have the extra space.

I don't think you'll regret it l.
