How much should these quotes be?

Hello

I have an ikea kitchen that was planned out, we did the top half of kitchen 1st as we had no usable top units when we moved in.

We are now ready to do the bottom half and I am waiting on 2 quotes back, they seem to be taking a while!

Its just rip out old units/ worktop , instal 3 base cabinets (will be built for fitter) , 2 new work tops that need cut to size and sink taken out and replaced in again in new work top.

Sink unit needs to stay as there is a gas meter there and ikea units wont be large enough to accommodate so we will just paint inside that and get new similar colour and style doors elsewhere. Since on a budget its cheaper this way.

Will do flooring and tiling part when can afford.

Just looking for what others might have paid for a small kitchen.

to add that the sink is not attached next to the other units that will have matching ikea doors so I don't mind the little difference in style, its shaker style overall.

If you did the top half and you are building the 3 units why not just get a quote for the worktop. I’ve replaced a few bottom cabinets due to water damage and are pretty easy.

that's a great idea. worktop and plumbing for sink would be a great way to keep our costs down. Thank you.

You could also expand who you are asking for quotes, many kitchen fitters especially in warmer weather will book 5 days for a kitchen and unless they have a small gap are not interested in a days work. a competent handyman, a company that only does worktops or a carpenter may have more availability

ok, thanks, it was just quoted at over £1500 and that's more than we paid for the whole set of base cabinets and 2 worktops combined so its just too much out of budget to do what we need.

I mean considering that's half a kitchen maybe that's the going rate but still we didn't plan for it unfortunately as was originally going to be a diy job, and now a lot of it will have to be lol.

You can hire worktop jigs and routers, and there are plenty of you tube videos and if you haven’t got a quality jigsaw one of them as well

And one more, I had a sink that a cupboard was out of the question so I used end panels to bridge the space and attached the door to the panel and then plinth as normal. Hope that makes sense

Yes that makes sense, excellent tips. Thank you very much.

If you build the 3 base units, fitting them and cutting worktops should only take 1 long day.

The worktop is important. It's a real skill to cut it and fit it properly. It makes a kitchen. Or can break it. It's finishing. It finishes it off and makes it look good. Focus on that. The rest of the donkey work, behind the scenes, you can do yourself. Speak to others, search around. Find a good worktop cutter who will do it as an after job , as you described earlier.

Dh's brother is a builder, Dh can fix anything. But re our kitchen re-fit we got his mate, the best worktop cutter for miles, to come in for one day. We worked around him. Was worth it.
