Is this a normal proportion of income to spend on rent?

If we have a take home salary of £6,000 a month between us, and spend £1,650 a month on rent. Is that a 'normal' proportion?

Depends on the size of the property but sounds affordable given you're take home pay. Again, depends on extra expenses.

We had a smaller combined income than you and were paying just shy of 2k on our last rented two bed apartment.

Sounds fucking amazing.
ours is 70% of our income

Cangar · 25/06/2024 18:17

That’s low as a proportion.

ACynicalDad · 25/06/2024 18:18

Does that include bills? Either way you are very fortunate. Sounds like you can do some serious deposit saving.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/06/2024 18:20

Sounds very low

7k income 1k mortgage here. (Recent promotion and nearing an end of a 5 year fixed though so that will likely alter!)

Sweetpea1989 · 25/06/2024 18:24

Oops just read its rent!

Savemysweets · 25/06/2024 18:27

I’d say that’s quite conservative.

Wow, rent is expensive.

A little less than standard I would say.

For example, my sister's take home is a little over £4K a month and her rent is £3k a month.
