Where to move?

BallonHasPopped · 24/06/2024 11:23

I have researched loads, looked at rightmove and zoopla too many times, but I just don’t know where to move to and could do with some help.

WFH so can go anywhere in the UK.

2 children - one will be in Y7 high school, other in Primary.

budget £190k (this is why I’m struggling), need 3 bedrooms and would like a garden.

The place needs to feel safe as I’m not safe where I live, which is why I have to move.

I need to be close to amenities (especially hospital).

Needs to have a good public transport system.

Ideally within travelling distance of a beach.

Does this place exist?

Thanks!

Newcastle area?

BallonHasPopped · 24/06/2024 12:21

@CocoapuffPuff Thanks for the reply. I haven’t looked at Newcastle, but it’s one for the list.

You'll find some.of the more.remote areas in the UK have the room/garden/beach proximity you're after at the price but you'll struggle with close amenities such as a hospital as well.

I imagine the coast of North Wales, parts of Cornwall and the East coast of Norflk are your best bets. Working remotely gives you so much more flexibility.

Of course if you're willing to move further north, Scotland around Inverness will give you excellent value for money.
Good luck!

Hospitals and shops not on door step but if you can drive not difficult to get to, many nice little village in this area that was just one I thought I'd share to give you an idea of what's available around your price range

I'd go for somewhere like this https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/147755147?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY

Blyth (the town) doesn't have the greatest reputation but this area is lovely, a short walk from the beach. It's had a lot of investment. The new Northumberland line is due to open nearby soon which will greatly improve links to Newcastle and other areas.

Check out this 3 bedroom semi-detached house for sale on Rightmove

Northumberland coast, maybe?

Greycheck · 24/06/2024 15:16

Wirral, Merseyside? Ticks all your boxes.

MiddleAgedDread · 24/06/2024 16:45

I don't know what the schools are like but the coast around Newcastle (either north or south of the Tyne - South Shields, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Blyth etc) would suit. You've got major hospitals (including a children's hospital) in Newcastle, the east coast train line between London and Edinburgh, beach on your doorstep and the northumberland coast just a short drive away, Newcastle airport not far away. the metro and decent bus services......

Barry near Cardiff has the sort of price you're looking for. Unfortunately DH wants to live near where we live now rather than go back home.

Lincolnshire, Sleaford

Just had a Quick Look on RM, lots of 3 beds under £200k

Grammar schools and good secondary
Very good Primary schools

Doesn't have amenities like cinema etc, but they are not far away

sentfromiphoen · 24/06/2024 17:02

Oops missed the bit about a beach....ignore my suggestion

I love a bit of Barry island moved to Wales from Bristol.

Was going to suggest Wales but I would look at english/Welsh speaking so it's not overwhelming for your child. Lots of beautiful beaches in Wales!

I think it's also cheaper up north re houses depends where you fancy going.

BallonHasPopped · 24/06/2024 19:05

Thank you for the suggestions.

I think north wales is out because I would assume the DC may need to be able to speak Welsh, as I thought they were mainly Welsh speaking schools, but I could be wrong.

Towns with grammar schools worry me as I assume they would be hard to get into when already in high school year groups. Again I could be wrong!

Newcastle sounds promising. Although I’ve never been there. Can anyone recommend areas there?

No you don't need to speak Welsh in north Wales schools although there are some that are Welsh speaking alot are not.

EBoo80 · 24/06/2024 19:36

Burntisland in Fife. Lovely beach, 30 min train to Edinburgh, hospitals in Dunfermline or Kirkcaldy. In fact some areas of Kirkcaldy also worth a look. Lovely coast further east in Fife, with new train line to Leven.

You would get more for your money in South Shields than North Shields.
