Haywards Heath

Hi, I'm looking at moving to Sussex to be closer to family and am looking at Haywards Heath as my family live near there. Is it really worth moving there? Schools aren't an issue. Thanks.

It’s a normal good sized town, good rail
connections, mix of housing - new builds, old ones and big houses. Big Waitrose. If I had a choice and the money i would prefer a more rural area, there’s some beautiful locations outside the town. It depends what you are looking for in terms of facilities (do you drive? Commuting to work?). And your budget - because it’s only 40mins train to london the property prices are very expensive. Where are your family located? For example, if I sold my little house in Worthing, (2bed terrace, nice garden) I would only be able to afford a flat in HH.

We looked at moving there several years ago. It's nice enough but because it's a main station on the Brighton line you will pay a premium buying there. If you don't need the train line I would look at surrounding villages.

I like it, I'd live there. Its a nice safe town, its got everything you need for day to day living and its close to Brighton if you want a proper night out. But as PP said, you pay a premium for being on the London line, which is wasted money if you don't need it, and if you do need it you'll be lucky to get a seat getting on at Haywards Heath, the trains are already pretty full by the time it gets there. Some say it lacks a bit in character, but that wouldn't bother me.

I grew up there and left a fair while ago, though family still live there.

It's changed massively in the last 20 years or so, so many new builds - like everywhere else -that it's definitely lost it's small town vibe. It's a nice enough area, overall safe, good transport links.

There isn't much for kids to do though, if that's relevant to you. Small highstreet. Biggish shopping mall 20 minutes away in Crawley.

What's your budget? As it's a pretty pricey area! I'd personally look at Lindfield, the village next door, as very pretty there but still walkable into town.

It's nicer than Burgess Hill and Crawley! I also think Horsham, a town not far from HH is a bit of a dive, but people on here seem to think it's lovely 🥴

We moved from London to Haywards Heath. I think it's a fantastic area. Good schools and community feel. Lots of sports activities for kids. Close to Brighton and easy access to London. Town centre could do with an upgrade but you've got all the basics. Feels safe. Lots of greenery. Got a much larger house here than could ever afford where we lived previously. Glad we made the move.

Obviously looking at the wrong parts of Horsham!

shithole

It's a perfectly nice commuter town, with a useful generic high street. If you don't need the station for your commute then it isn't worth paying the inflated house prices. Lots of lovely villages around if you aren't against more rural living.

Having visited Horsham for many years as family lived there until recently, we will have to agree to disagree 😂
