Guttering

I live at the end of a row of five houses. The house next door is a rental property and it looks like the guttering has not been cleaned in years.

They don't have a drainpipe so any rain water will fall down into my drainpipe, but I've noticed quite a bit of moss on top of the downpipe drain guard (this is the back garden one), and the top of my sunroom has bits of moss as well, so wondering whether it's coming from their gutter as I had mine cleaned last year.

I don't know if the house is managed by a letting agency or directly by the landlord.

Or can it be something as simple as buying a gutter guard and installing it where my gutter meets their gutter to keep all the debris from running into my gutter.

Or should I write a letter, for the attention of both the tenant and the landlord, about cleaning their gutters.

Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? Thanks for any advice.

Cleaning the guttering is cheap…like really cheap compared to most other household issues! £80+VAT near me (south east).

I’d pop over and flag it to them in person - lots of people seem oblivious to the damage clogged up gutters can do. If they don’t take action, then gutter guard and have your own gutter cleaned - but tbh a gutter guard isn’t fool proof.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a blocked downpipe further along than I expected. Local drain cleaning experts were able to sort it quickly with a pressure jet—they found a bunch of moss and leaves stuck halfway down. Was cheaper than I thought and really quick, so might be worth calling someone to check deeper into the drainage if you've already cleared the obvious bits.
