Leaking pipe help (emergency)

There’s a short join on the pipe before you get to the stopcock. Water just started squirting out yesterday. It is a lot of water and fills an ikea toy drawer every two minutes. I managed to find a pump but it’s really too big so I have to manually lift the float to empty the box every two minutes. I’m exhausted as I snoozed on a camp bed in the utility last night lifting a float up every two minutes. I’ve turned it into a sort of fountain as water was squirting everywhere but anything I can do to slow the water down so I can get Dc off to school?

So it's leaking before the stopcock?
Happened to me - just called emergency plumber and they got water turned off at the mains.

Do you pay for your water? Cheaper to call the plumber asap than water charges while you continue waiting ?

Thinking do you have some kind of pipe - funnel and hosepipe leading outside via a door? If no hose can you access back if washing machine easily and borrow that pipe?

Are you on a water meter? You can turn the water off there.

The pump has a length of hose going out the door. Not on s meter so at least it’s not costing a fortune I don’t have a funnel. I wonder if I could rig something up with a milk carton. Emergency plumber booked between 10 and 2 but if I could slow it down somehow

I got some hosepipe repair tape from b&q a couple of years ago. It’s weird stuff, you have to stretch it loads as you wrap it round the split and it sticks to itself; you have to use quite a bit to overcome the pressure but it will slow things down and stop for a bit.
Can’t you get out to your mains cover point and tighten the tap in there? Again you can buy the long tap turner at b&q. Or ask on local Facebook if anyone has one.
best of luck!!

Ps b and q usually open really early!

Could you ring a friend to take the kids to school for you? Sorry to state the obvious but I assume you are knackered and won't be thinking as well as usual.

There’s usually another stopcock in the garden or out in the street for your house. It might need a special tool to turn it off. Ours is in a flower bed.

There is an external stopcock outside, I don’t have a long key, the plumber had one The children have moved the cover and it’s gravel so will have to find it . The nearest b and Q is 45 minutes away so I don’t want to head out and create a pool. I’ve called their dad and he has picked them up for breakfast and school run. I am knackered I’m sitting drinking coffee on a camp bed in the utility just waiting for water to fill up a box. Thankfully I have the day off today.
