Landscaping a Garden

I am dreaming about property, its a hobby.

Has anyone ever tried to terrace a garden of 3/4 of an acre?

Any idea how much it would cost?

I've seen a house with this size garden, location is perfect, house just needs cosmetic improvements, has scope to be extended to put in a nice big kitchen as detracted and fairly central to the plot.

But the plot is both excellent (size and location) and not excellent (north face of quite a steep hill) Its big enough I think that you would still get enough areas with sun for the north face not to be a problem most of the time. But living on a hill that is too steep for football, badminton, putting up tents etc. adds no benefit. Unless it could be terraced.

Thanks

Bumping because I'm in a similar position!

A lot. We had to have a very small flat garden sorted out after building work - with a very small retaining wall and some paving and turf. That was about £12K added on to the final build.....

It's probably not that hard to do yourself technically, but you'd have to hire mini diggers...

Steep gardens are ££££ to terrace! The retaining walls have to be mega - I looked at a property on a gentle slope and it had a three foot retaining wall at the rear. The surveyor said I was looking at least £6k to repair it (and it looked fine to me) as he said the drain holes were not adequate and if there was a good rainfall it was at risk of failing.
The north facing bit is not an issue - I live in a terrace and get sun all day two thirds of the year on my garden. In the winter the houses behind and lower sun restrict it, but with the size garden you are talking about I can't see the same situation. But steep - that's a no go for me. You'll find you'll rarely walk down beyond the first terrace.

Thanks for the replies.

Some hard thinking about what I can tolerate, and afford there.
