Oil/grease on kitchen wall

I moved into a new build, the kitchen has been matt painted. Splashback to the sides of hob is only around 6 inches high, meaning I now have oil splatters from the back hob on the paint. Tried to clean them - didn't work. Painted over them with the same paint and the marks have come through.

What kind of primer do I need to cover them with, that can also be painted over with the matte paint? Conflicting advice on line.

Help! It's driving me nuts!

The paint extends to the dining room so I can't isolate the area to finish with an eggshell or something that will wipe clean... appreciate pan splash guards are the way to go but what do I do in the meantime?

Any advice gratefully received :)

I’d try sugar soap to clean and then a stain blocker primer, think we have used a zinsser primer with success.

Zinsser 123 primer, the water based version. Then paint, then 3 coats of decorators varnish, make sure the top coat is matt. That'll give your paint a wipe clean finish.

Can you get the height of the tiles increased? If it's a new build you should be able to get the tilers to use the same tiles and grout colour.
